When I was young, art was
it was really a vehicle that gave me a sense of self.
And uh, my sister was 3 years older
and I couldn't do anything as well as my sister.
She could always do everything better
and then at one time my parents saw me draw something
they made me feel like I could finally do something
to the level of my sister.
It gave me a kind of feeling you know,
oh! I kinda have a place here.
I think that I built kind of a vocabulary to work with.
I'll make paintings, I'll make sculptures.
I'll make public works.
some things are more figurative,
some things are more abstract.
some times I'll play a little game, okay did I ever make
an art work with a bird?
Oh! yeah yeah, there was a bird on Buster Keaton.
Oh yeah, there was a bird on top of stack.
What people want to do the most in life
is what they avoid the most so,
the job of the artist is to make a gesture
and really show people what their potential is in.
And through that people will live to their potential.
they realize it's not about that object, it's not about that image.
It's about what is happening inside the viewer,
that's where the art happens.
the objects are absolutely valueless but
what happens inside the viewers, that's where the value is
and it's about where they can go from that moment
to achieve their desires.
