eating red meat in quantities is still being discussed between people with and against it
that consider it one of the new century's poison follow us for more information.
health
despite the fact that red meat is an easy iron, vitamins and protein source
the american heart association and Harvard University stated that red meat
contains high level of cholesterol and fat which was proven to be linked to cancer and cardiovascular diseases
the pros and cons of red meat will be our topic today with Stephanie Nammar clinical dietitian,
Hi stephanie, how are you? good!
Are you with or without red meat consumption
i am with red meat, because without red meat we will not be able to get proper iron
however we should know which type of meat to chose,
we should go for beef filet varieties which are very low in fat
which is essential and eat it twice a week.
I always ask myself how many times a week should someone eat meat?
for hypercholesterolemia twice a week is good.
this is only because of the cholesterol content?there is no other reasons?
yes in deed it is only the cholesterol two times a week
actually we can eat meat every day if we do not have a cholesterol problem
but we have to watch for the quantities for women it is maximum 150 g
for men approximately 200 g,
so if we omit cholesterol and fat or cancer
why does people do not encourage others to consume red meat?
it actually depends on each ones believes, vegans usually consider meat as harming animals
that is why we should stop eating animal products
it usually affects us when we consume red meat in high quantities specially if we have initially a high blood cholesterol
if we have cholesterol everything that is from animal source will potentially harm us
no not every animal source, red meat will harm us the most because it contains saturated fat
which will lead to heart diseases and high blood cholesterol
Now regarding vegetarians, you were talking about something called flexi..
yes about the Flexitarian diet
the flexitarian diet is being basically vegetarian for a month and including red meat 2 to 3 times
Is it enough for someone to have all the required iron?
it is not enough 100 percent however it is better than not eating red meat at all
because there is 2 types of iron , heme iron which is from animal source
and non heme iron that comes from plant source
So now if we only consume non heme ,our body will not absorb iron properly
Now i want to ask you about how to prepare meat. Is there a proper method for cooking meat?
yes for sure we need to avoid barbecuing which can create carcinogenic substances specially when the meat is burned
We should never eat burned meat
But we need to cook it properly ?!
we need to grill it without burning it,more than necessary is not worth it
If we are frying it , it is the same we have to make sure not to burn it
Exactly the meat should not burn
What can the dangerous compound produce? carcinogenic substances contains harmful chemicals
we should definitely not burn the meat because the compounds will turn to carcinogenic substances. Thank you stephanie for your advice
In conclusion paying close attention to meat quantity and its cooking methods can make all the difference
and transform it to one of the healthier compound of a balanced diet
