“Well for us in Housing and Economic development the big challenge is the economy and the downturn
and the world is nothing like what we expected when Governor Patrick first came into office.
So that’s been the biggest challenge and to realize that there are people in need,
both in the housing side and on the job side, that it’s very important to focus on the
short term needs of people and try to help them through these difficult times and then
also balance the fact that the Governor from the beginning had talked about having some
very ambitious long term goals about making the state a better place and urging all of
us to think about what can we do that makes the state a better place 10 years from now,
20 years from now. So how to balance those two- of making sure that people feel that
we are doing everything we can do to help them in the short term but also keep our eyes
on long term investments like education and infrastructure that’s going to make us a
stronger Commonwealth 10 years from now.”
