Today marks a milestone for the Whittlesea Community Activity Centre redevelopment project
with the delivery of the Relocatable buildings for the Kindergarten and Child Care Services
at the Walker Reserve.
The prefabricated buildings will form the temporary Whittlesea CAC preschool/child care
accommodation and should be up and running the start of the new school term.
A number of trucks will deliver each of the 12 modules of the relocatable buildings to
the site where they will occupy the southwest corner of the C. McDonald Reserve in Laurel
Street Whittlesea for approx. 22 months.
The Relocatables will be positioned on prefabricated steel screw pile footings. These screw piles
are temporary and therefore low impact on the site and the environment as they can be
recycled once removed leaving the site as it was originally.
These new relocatable buildings being installed will provide a safe and compliant alternative
for Kindergarten and Child Care services while the Community Activity Centre is being redeveloped.
Like all Kindergarten and Child Care Facilities it must be licenced by the Department of Education
& Early Child Development. These Relocatable Buildings also require a building permit to
ensure that all necessary considerations are provided to meet the Community’s needs.
The facility will feature 2 relocatable buildings joined together, with room for up to 66 Children
at any one time as well as an appropriate number of Kindergarten and Child Care staff.
Each module will consist of spaces such as a, Staff Room, Childrens Room, Registered
Kitchen, Children and Staff Amenities,Storage Room, Outdoor Playground with sand pits, shade
sails, paths and small gardens.
These buildings have been purchased by the City of Whittlesea and are “Purpose Built”
so at the conclusion of this project they will be made available for other projects
or facilities to help meet the needs of our ever expanding community and the provision
The construction of the portables is expected to take approx. 2 weeks and should be open
for business by the middle of July 2012
