>>Wade: Hi. I'm Wade Wingler with the Indata Project at Easter Seals Crossroad in Indiana.
Let's face it some times when you need to get up or get down, you need
a handle, but there's not always a handle where you need it. So, Brian Norton
the manager of our clinical program here is going to show you a really cool device from
Rifton that will help you put a handle where you need it.
>>Brian: Today we are going to talk about a some unique devices that are made by Rifton.
Rifton is a company that makes a couple of interesting mounts. Things like
grab bars. This one here is called a wrist anchor. They also make some anchor knobs
like this for being able to just pull yourself up and out of a chair. And I have used these
several times in certain job accommodations in the home, at school, for
individuals with some unique challenges. Some of the unique challenges that they
might experience is sometimes, in fact one individual had some issues with a wandering
hand. So, as he would work he was very had the ability to be able to kinda work very
well with his left hand, but while his left hand was doing one thing his right
hand was doing another. So, what we were able to do for that is we took this wrist anchor.
These knobs will actually twist and on the bottom of the *** there is a suction
cup so it will suction cup itself to a flat surface. You will be able to put your
hand in there. Take the velcro strap, tighten it down and it will actually help him control
his right hand while he works and is being proficient using the left hand
so it keeps him productive throughout the day and not having to kind of always be
distracted by what his right hand might be doing. Other things that Rifton does is as
well, I have actually used a *** much like this that does not have the extention
on the back, this is that wrist extention, but it's a *** much like this. I have
had a couple of individuals who have difficulty getting in and out of their office chair and
putting an entire grab bar in front of them is quite challenging so we've
been able to put this on their desk. It doesn't take up much space. It's kind of
out of the way some times, but they can use this to be able to pull themselves up and
out of their chair much more easily. Just some
interesting devices made by Rifton. >>Wade: So, that's a handy way to have a handle
any place you need it. I'm Wade Wingler with the INDATA project at Easter
