The Legend of Zelda ~Ocarina of Time~ Official Video Guide
Welcome to the world of The Legend of Zelda.
I'm one of the main characters of this story,
Link's partner, Navi the fairy.
Nice to meet you.
I'll be guiding you throughout your adventure.
This book is all about Link's adventures.
Everything's written down here.
Let's see...
I'll first talk about the world where the adventure takes place, and the objective.
Chapter 1 The World of Ocarina of Time
It seems the time has come for the boy without a fairy to begin his journey...
The youth whose destiny it is to lead Hyrule to the path of justice and truth...
Navi... go now! Find our young friend and guide him to me...
The forest guardian sent me to look for a young boy.
He lived in a village located deep in the forests of the Kingdom of Hyrule.
There he is!
This is the boy with whom I'll go out on an adventure, Link.
Hello, Link! Wake up!
The Great Deku Tree wants to talk to you! Link, get up!
He looks like an ordinary boy...
And to think he has the fate of the world in his hands...
Oh... Navi... Thou hast returned...
Link...Welcome...
Recognized as a courageous boy, Link learned from the forest's guardian, the Great Deku Tree,
that a black shadow was threatening the sacred power of the Kingdom of Hyrule.
The black shadow's after the legendary power...
...the three goddesses left behind in this world, the Triforce.
The three great goddesses, their labors completed, departed for the heavens.
And golden sacred triangles remained at the point where the goddesses left the world.
Since then, the sacred triangles have become the basis of our world's providence.
And, the resting place of the triangles has become the Sacred Realm.
If it falls into the hands of that shadow, this world will be covered in darkness...
People will be stripped of their dreams and hopes...
We must stop it somehow...
The Great Deku Tree pinned his last hope on Link.
Navi the fairy... Help Link to carry out my will...
I entreat ye... Navi... Good... bye...
Good bye, Great Deku Tree.
But we have no time to mourn over this.
And so, Link started his journey with the fate of Hyrule on his shoulders.
Say, did you know Link has, so far, embarked on many adventures?
Let's take a brief look at them.
Chapter 2 The History of Zelda
This is the memorable first game of the Zelda series.
It's name is The Legend of Zelda.
Released in 1986, it was the first game for the Famicom Disk System.
That means it's been more than ten years since it was released.
There must be many people who feel nostalgic after watching this footage.
The system, delivering the fun of an action RPG, hasn't lost its appeal.
The sequel, The Adventure of Link, was released the following year.
It's the start of another adventure for Link...
...after becoming popular with the first title.
It increased the intensity of action, as it took place in a side-scroll view.
It was a bit difficult, but part of the series' charm lies in playing the games many times.
The third installment was released for the Super NES, a powered-up Zelda, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
Running, throwing, swimming; controlling Link is very fun.
With more than 20 items, the journey was made even more enjoyable.
The famous Zelda puzzles fire up the adventure.
The fourth installment of the Zelda series was released for the Game Boy,
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening.
Even in its compact form, Zelda's fun factor didn't change at all.
And since it was for the Game Boy,
you could help Link in his adventure anywhere at any time.
You've got a Guardian Acorn! It will reduce the damage you take by half!
You got a Piece of Power! You can feel the energy flowing through you!
Ah, this is such a great series.
Looking at this gives you a good idea of the many adventures of Link.
Do you know Link's father, the creator of the world of Zelda?
That person is Nintendo's Mr. Shigeru Miyamoto.
We asked Mr. Miyamoto his thoughts on this new Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
Hello. I'm Shigeru Miyamoto, from Nintendo.
Sorry for making you wait for so long.
We've finally finished another Zelda game.
It has the same atmosphere of the game released 10 years ago.
But many items are used in a completely different way now in 3-D.
It has evolved a lot.
I think this game may be the longest of all Zelda titles to date.
I can guarantee 50 hours, plus some more hours just for fun. It's a game with a lot of content.
It's not like a movie and it's not like a game either. We truly wanted to develop interactive graphics.
We've created a very fun world. Everyone, please enjoy it.
The controls are very useful for your adventure in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
In this section, I'll show you the gameplay.
It's all very simple.
Remember all this and your adventure will be a lot easier.
Chapter 3 Gameplay
Let's start with the analog stick's functions.
By moving it in various directions, you can perform several different moves.
Running.
The speed depends on how far you tilt the stick.
Jumping.
Link can jump low bumps, or to near ledges, automatically, by just running towards them.
Swimming.
Tilt the stick in the direction you want to swim towards.
If you see a place where you might be able to climb up, try tilting the stick towards it.
Climbing.
Check all the places where vines grow!
The B button is for sword moves.
You can swing your sword in many ways!
The B button's the basic fight button.
To do a horizontal swing, just press B.
If your timing's good, the third attack will have a longer reach.
To do a vertical swing, press the Z and B buttons.
If your timing's good, the third swing will have a longer reach.
And now, let's watch these moves in action.
To do a spin attack, hold down the B button and release it.
The spin attack's power depends on how long you hold down the B button.
There are still many other techniques.
The R button's used for defense.
Press it to raise your shield.
It's an important button that protects you from enemies.
After raising your shield, you can freely change its angle by moving the control stick.
It looks like this in combat.
The A button is the action button.
It can perform many actions, depending on Link's situation.
Climbing.
Pulling.
You can do all these actions just with the A button.
Pushing.
The controls are very easy.
Diving.
Entering small places.
You can even do this, for example.
And doing this is very easy, too.
There are many other actions for you to try out.
Now, the special Z button.
It's very useful.
Z-targetting.
The Z button is mostly used for the Z-targetting function.
When you are fighting an enemy, pressing the Z button makes it easier.
You won't have to worry about losing sight of your enemy.
If you combine the Z button with other buttons, Link will perform several actions brilliantly.
Doing a back somersault and walking sideways are just two of them.
You can also easily circle your enemies like this.
The C buttons are important, too.
There are two kinds of C buttons.
Navi icon.
The one on the top is the Navi icon.
Depending on the situation, I, Navi, will give you advice.
The other three buttons are for equipping and using your items.
Lastly, the start button.
Press it to change between the different subscreens.
You can see the Select Item, Equipment, Quest Status, and Map subscreens.
Thanks for waiting.
Now let's get started with the adventure of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
The journey is full of dangers.
Here are some hints for those who get stuck in the game.
Those who have already beaten the game may find something new.
And those who haven't started to play will have an easy time with the game, if they watch this.
Chapter 4 Adventure Guide
Kokiri Forest
I have been cursed... I need you to break the curse with your wisdom and courage.
Dost thou have courage enough to undertake this task?
The Kokiri Forest.
Link's adventure starts with the task of breaking the curse of the Great Deku Tree.
The Great Deku Tree is full of puzzles and dangers.
The Slingshot is the first offensive item you obtain.
Equip it to a C button and attack from a distance.
Whenever you encounter a new enemy, just call me.
I'll give you some advice on how to attack it.
There are many tricks to solve puzzles in dungeons.
Have a good look around you and try doing many things.
There is always something hidden in suspicious places.
This spiderweb is very strong.
Then maybe from a higher place...
If you throw a Deku Nut to the floor, you can stun your enemies with a flash.
Use them when you're at a disadvantage.
Also remember that spiderwebs are flammable.
Parasitic Armored Arachnid Gohma
This is the first dungeon's boss, Gohma.
Gohma It's one of the parasitic monsters inside the Deku Tree! Its eye is vulnerable when it's red!
Keep your distance and wait for her eye to turn red.
When her eye turns red, attack her with the Slingshot.
Get near while she's stunned and attack her with your sword.
Get rid of the eggs before they hatch.
All right! You beat her!
Thou must not let that man, with his evil heart, enter the Sacred Realm of legend...
Oh, you're leaving...
I want you to have this Ocarina... Please take good care of it.
The Ocarina's an important item to obtain key elements of the story!
Throughout your journey, you'll learn several ocarina songs.
Depending on the song you play, many different things can happen.
Try playing all of them to see what happens.
Let's take a look at the special melodies that appear throughout the story.
Zelda's Lullaby
Epona's Song
The Sun's Song
Saria's Song
The Song of Time
The Song of Storms
The Minuet of the Forest
The Bolero of Fire
The Serenade of Water
The Prelude of Light
The Nocturne of Shadow
The Requiem of Spirit
Onto Hyrule Castle.
Hyrule Castle
You can't enter Hyrule Castle from the front.
So you have to find another way to get in.
Castle Courtyard
In the courtyard, analyze the patrol pattern of the guards and slip away stealthily.
Who?!
Who are you?
Here, someone else entrusts her fate to Link.
The three goddesses hid the Triforce containing the power of the gods, somewhere in Hyrule.
The power to grant the wish of the one who holds the Triforce in his hands.
Can you see the man with the evil eyes?
That is Ganondorf, the leader of the Gerudos. They hail from the desert far to the west.
Who might that man be?
Death Mountain
Death Mountain Trail
This is the Goron race that lives in Death Mountain.
It's said they have a weakness for rocks.
Look at that huge boulder over there!
It blocks the entrance to the Dodongo's Cavern, which was once a very important place for us Gorons...
But one day, many Dodongos suddenly appeared inside the cavern. It became a very dangerous place!
The Goron leader's in a very bad mood.
How can we cheer him up?
It seems he likes music a lot.
If you need music, use that item.
If you wear this, even a little fella like you can pick a Bomb Flower using (A).
You got the Goron's Bracelet! Now you can pull up Bomb Flowers. Stand next to one and use (A) to pull it up!
Bombs are essential in the Goron village.
You have to use bombs to advance in the game.
Dodongo's Cavern
Dead Giant Dodongo... when it sees red, a new way to go will be open.
Bombs are the key item here too.
OK, both eyes are lighted.
Infernal Dinosaur King Dodongo
This is the boss of Dodongo's Cavern: King Dodongo.
Make it swallow a bomb when it opens its mouth to spit fire.
If the bomb explodes inside its stomach, it'll fall down.
That's your chance to focus on attacking it.
If he starts rolling, get to a safe place.
You did it! You beat King Dodongo!
Kid, I like you!
How about you and I become Sworn Brothers?!
No, there's no big ceremony involved! Just take this as a token of our friendship!
Zora's Domain
Zora's Domain
Admired for its abundant water, Zora's Domain is home to the people of the water, the Zoras.
When you pick them all up, come back here! I'll give you something very nice!
START!
All right! It's a diving challenge!
You can dive for 3 seconds.
Look for your target and dive.
If you dive carelessly, you'll run out of time.
You got the Silver Scale! Jump into the water and press (A). You can dive deeper than you could before.
This might be a little sudden, but let's take a look at some other fun minigames that...
...take place in several different places.
If you clear them, you might get something special.
Play them all.
First, the Super Cucco-Finding game.
In this game, you have to find 3 Super Cuccos among...
...a group of ordinary Cuccos in less than 30 seconds.
That's one of 'em! Keep it up! Keep it up! Two more to find!
There's another! All right, now, the moment of truth! One more to find!
Golly! I'll be darned! It's plum incredible! That's the last one!
Bombchu Bowling.
Avoid the obstacles and hit the center of the target with a Bombchu, a running bomb.
It may be easy at first, but the difficulty increases gradually.
Pause and timing are the key factors.
WINNER!!!
Shooting Gallery.
Shoot the targets with the Slingshot.
You'll need timing, speed, and accuracy for this game.
Wonderful!!! Bravo!!! Perfect!!!
Fishing.
Use the control stick and the buttons to catch a fish as large as you can.
There must be many people looking forward to playing this.
You get different rewards depending on the size of the fish you catch.
This one's Horse Racing.
If you spur your horse, it will go faster,
but if you overdo it, the horse's stamina will decrease and it'll get exhausted.
Keep an eye on the carrot meter to spur your horse effectively.
If you win this race, you'll get something really great.
Here's a little hint to win the race:
Ride the horse that likes the Ocarina.
Cucco-Finding in Kakariko Village.
Catch the Cuccos that ran away.
Some of them are easy to catch, but there's one you can see yet you can't reach.
Then let's use another Cucco.
If you carry one to a high place and jump, you'll reach some places you couldn't before.
For those having trouble finding the last Cucco: here it is.
There are still many minigames we didn't cover.
And that was the minigames section.
What's that?
You got an Empty Bottle! Put something inside and press C to use it... What? Something's already inside!?
Ho, this letter! It's from Princess Ruto!
The evidence seems clear. Of course, you'll go find Ruto. You can pass through here to the altar of Lord Jabu-Jabu.
If you show to the king the letter from the bottle you found at the lake, he'll let you pass.
OK! Let's hurry and see what's wrong with Lord Jabu-Jabu, the guardian god of the Zoras!
Zora's Fountain
Lord Jabu-Jabu's favorite food is fish.
If you place it in front of him, he'll open his mouth.
You! Who are you?!
I am Ruto, Princess of the Zoras.
This tomboy's the princess of the Zora, Princess Ruto.
What?! Are you saying my father asked you to come here to save me?
I'd never ask anyone to do such a thing!
Ooooh Noooooo!
There's something weird with this switch.
This switch... It doesn't look like you can press it down with your weight alone, Link...
If Link's too light to activate it,
how about this?
You found the Boomerang! On the Select Item Subscreen, you can set it to ().
Once you equip the Boomerang, you'll see it's a very effective item.
You can attack distant enemies, like with the Slingshot, but you don't have to worry about the number of shots.
This is the parasite boss inside Lord Jabu-Jabu: Barinade.
Watch out for its electric shocks.
Barinade. Many parasitic jellyfish swarm around this monster. Aim for its body, protected by jellyfish!
First get rid of the jellyfish around its main body.
Then attack his main body with the Boomerang,
and use your sword while it's stunned.
You did it!
Link hurried back to Hyrule Castle, only to find this.
What could've happened?
You found the Ocarina of Time that Princess Zelda left behind.
Temple of Time
Having everything he needed to open the Door of Time, Link headed to the Temple of Time.
And he finally opened the door.
But just when he pulled out the Master Sword from its pedestal...
Wake up... Link, the chosen one...
Link crossed over time and turned into an adult.
The Sage of Time informed Link of his fate.
The Sages' Seals will contain all the evil power in the void of the Realm...
You received the Light Medallion! Rauru the Sage adds his power to yours!
Find the other Sages and save Hyrule!
There's a new adventure waiting for Link, the Hero of Time.
What do you think? The Kingdom of Hyrule is in big trouble!
Many surprising things happen, afterwards.
But you're supposed to continue on your own.
Hmmm, what should I do?
OK! I'll just give you a few hints for some important parts.
Chapter 5 The Book of Secrets
Forest Temple
The item you obtain in the Forest Temple, the Fairy Bow, is very useful!
Evil Spirit from Beyond Phantom Ganon
This is the boss of the Forest Temple: Phantom Ganon.
He runs into the paintings and then reappears.
Time to see what the Fairy Bow is capable of.
Since you can't tell which painting he'll come out from, keep an eye on all of them.
Once he gets down from the horse, he'll change his attack style.
He'll throw a ball of light at you; hit it back timely with your sword.
This is the Flare Dancer from the Fire Temple.
Fighting an enemy with a fire robe is tough, so first extinguish its robe.
Once you extinguish its robe, it may get a new one, so watch out.
In the Fire Temple you obtain the Megaton Hammer; a very powerful item.
Without it, you can't advance in this dungeon.
And you'll also need it to beat the boss of the Fire Temple: Volvagia.
When it pops its head out of a crater, attack it with the Megaton Hammer.
Then attack it with your sword!
You get the Long Hookshot in the Water Temple.
Its chain can extend to a great distance.
Giant Aquatic Amoeba Morpha
This is the boss of the Water Temple: Morpha.
You can't damage its stretching water body even if you attack it.
That's where the Long Hookshot comes in handy.
Pull Morpha's core with it and attack it.
Now it's time for the exciting sixth chapter.
It looks like you'll have to continue on your own from here on.
Continue on your quest, and there might be some really emotional moments waiting for you.
Well, I'm going back to Link now.
See you!
