((Christie Dimond)) I am a senior and I am studying journalism and economics.
“Feel like you’re not being heard by your local politician?”
I definitely want to go into something with journalism whether it be public relations,
marketing, reporting, maybe financial reporting because I do enjoy economics.
This summer I was lucky to work at NBC in Chicago at the assignment desk and that was
a great experience.
“Thank you so much for coming to our Gluten-Free Badgers meeting.”
I’m president of Gluten-Free Badgers. I intern in the Center for Leadership and Development,
and my boss and I both found out that we have Celiac disease so I started learning more
about it and basically, you can’t have gluten which is a protein found in wheat, barley,
and rye. So, you can’t have pasta, bread, cereal, crackers – like, anything like that.
All of that stuff has to be gluten-free. I was kind of realizing this is pretty hard
to be on a college campus, you know, where pizza and beer are, like, two of your common
food groups. I was fortunate enough to not have this when I was a freshman but that’s
a pretty big transition as it is.
It’s really important that we support each other and we talk to each other and use each
other as resources to find out where we can find gluten-free options and what dining halls
do have things available for people to eat, um, who have these needs.
My goal was to serve as a support network for other people on campus who face, you know
like, the challenges of eating gluten-free and then second was to raise awareness for
gluten-free needs within, um, our university and the greater Madison community.
In five years I would love to be a reporter in a mid-market field or a large field – that’d
be great too um, but somewhere where I’m loving what I’m doing day-in and day-out.
