R: Hi! This is Rachel - and this is Kendra - and you're watching This Week in TV. This
week marks the beginning of the fall season, so lots of premieres - though things don't
get completely
K: Well Rachel, on Tuesday, The CW premieres begin with 90210 at 8pm and Ringer's series
premiere at 9. On NBC, Parenthood has its season premiere at 10. On Wednesday, Survivor:
South Pacific premieres on CBS at 8pm and also at 8 over on The CW, H8R premieres followed
by America's Next Top Model. On NBC, Up All Night has its series premiere at the special
time of 10pm followed by the premiere of Free Agents. After this week, these new comedies
will move to their regularly scheduled slots Wednesdays at 8 and 8:30. So that's the beginning
of the week, what's on the rest of the week, Rachel?
R: On Thursday it's another big CW night with the season premiere of Vampire Diaries at
8 and the series premiere of The Secret Circle at 9. Some of my favorite FX comedies are
also returning: Always Sunny at 10, followed by Archer at 10:30. Then on Friday it's the
season finale of Karaoke Battle USA on ABC. Finally, on Sunday September 18th it's the
Emmys on FOX. Check out SideReel's Emmys page for all of the nominees and following the
Emmys, the winners.
R: As you can see, fall premieres are officially in action, so Kendra and I are continuing
with our preview, today focusing on NBC's new offerings. NBC has definitely had some
troubles launching successful new shows in recent years, though they have had a few gems:
Parks & Rec, anyone? So are there any new gems in this fall's batch? Kendra, kick it
off with the new comedies:
K: NBC's new comedies include Whitney which premieres Thursday September 22nd, plus Up
All Night and Free Agents which I mentioned premiere this Wednesday. Free Agents is a
workplace comedy based on the popular U.K. series by the same name and follows the romantic
escapades of two co-workers trying to find love for the second time around. If you like
The Office and Better Off Ted, this should be a new favorite. Free Agents' Wednesday
companion, Up All Night, stars Will Arnett and Christina Applegate as new parents. Fans
of Modern Family and Raising Hope should love this one as it follows the honest and ridiculous
mishaps that ensue when any couple is going nuts with a new baby. Check out a preview
clip
of the pilot episode.
Last but not least, Whitney stars Whitney Cummings of Chelsea Lately who stars as half
of a "happily unmarried couple. " She and her boyfriend are surrounded by their friends
in various stages of relationships with plenty of opinions about Whitney and her boyfriend's
relationship as well which Whitney deals with in her sarcastic way. I'd recommend this one
to fans of couple comedies like Happy Endings plus comedies with hilarious and disastrous
female leads like Parks & Rec and 30 Rock.
So Rachel, that's the rundown on NBC's new comedies, what about the dramas?
R: Well, NBC is launching 3 new dramas this fall. Firstly, they're hopping onto the 60s
nostalgia bandwagon with The Playboy Club - think mad Men...meets The Girls Next Door.
This show focuses on the patrons and bunnies of the original Playboy Club in 60s Chicago.
Fun fact: 2 of the show's executive producers worked on both The House Bunny & The Girls
Next Door previously. Lots of bunny expertise. Here's a preview: [clip]
The Playboy Club premieres September 19th at 10PM. Next up is Grimm - one of 2 new fall
shows that brings fairy tales to life: the other is Once Upon a Time on ABC. In Grimm,
the fairy tale characters are committing the crimes - so perhaps there's a bit of Supernatural
in there - as Grimm focuses on the detective that attempts to stop them. Finally, we have
another crime drama in Prime Suspect - a remake of a British Show. What's going for this one
is it's from Peter Berg who brought us Friday Night Lights and stars the always excellent
Maria Bello as the lead, a NYC homicide detective. Prime Suspect launches September 22nd at 10.
You can check out clips from all of these shows on our NBC Fall preview page.
K: That's it for this week, don't forget to check out the newly released season finale
of SideReel's original True Blood spoof series, Fang In There Bro, and stay tuned to our Facebook

R: See you next week!
