THE IMPORTANCE OF MERITOCRACY
Meritocracy… It should be the norm, shouldn’t it?
Because everyone seems to think it’s some kind of hobgoblin,
something really out of the ordinary.
When, actually, meritocracy is simple justice.
I can’t favor someone over someone else just because he or she is my friend,
or because we were born in the same country, or we are from the same family.
I can’t act like that. I have to be fair.
But in a company where you have friends working together, or relatives working together,
sometimes it’s difficult to be fair, you know what I mean?
This is the problem of meritocracy.
So, meritocracy means acknowledging the merit of those have it, in each situation.
It’s not easy. You must have proper performance assessment, you must have a lot of feedback,
you must help people grow. In short, you must promote…
…those who have merit. And this is sometimes hard for those who don’t have.
