West Coast Hot Sauce. Does it stack up?
What's up Everyone. Welcome back to TastySauces.com.
I'm your host Billy D. Today we're headed out West to the West Coast.
We're checking out some hot sauces in California and Humboldt Hot Sauce was kind
enough to send us their flavors
We got three different ones we're looking at today. We got their Island Style.
We got their Medium (Emerald Sauce) and then we got their Hot. high
This is their Habanero- Mango. And just a little bit about this company, they
are a new company that started out in 2009. This is when they formed the idea to start the
business.
But now they're kinda blown up all over the place. You can find them at Whole Foods but they are out of
California.
Everything's real natural, real small batch.
Use good quality ingredients so very excited to try these out.
Now the first one we are looking at is the Island Style Hot Sauce. As far as ingredients,
definitely has an island feel to it. Its got pineapples, roasted bell
peppers, habanero peppers, some grape skin,
little vinegar, bananas, some mangos, ginger, garlic, salt,
and some lemon juice in there. Just taking a look at the sauce, it's
not too runny, it's a nice, thick sauce. So you are
not going to get a heavy vinegar taste out of here. It's definitely got a sweet
pineapple-ish smell to it. Let's put it on this taco and
test it out.
Definitely thicker than the Tabasco type Louisiana sauces.
Here, we go.
A nice piece there.
Its got a nice little heat, really has a strong
very strong Island feel.
I'm getting a lot of the pineapples and this actually has some serious heat creeping on me.
Hmm, as far as the
heat scale, it's pretty spicy.
I'm going to give it a 5 out of 10 and that is pretty hot.
And as far as the five-star scale, I'm going to give it 4 out of 5.
Pretty tasty stuff. Definitely has that nice little
pineapple taste but that strong heat to go with it as well.
That's pretty good. Now checking out this next one.
It's an Emerald Sauce. This is cilantro, lime and ginger.
This is the mild version. They got roasted bell peppers, vinegar,
lime juice, little ginger puree, spices,
some habanero peppers, and some canola oil in them.
This stuff is pretty thick just like the last stuff.
Yeah you get that cilantro,
ginger smell out of there with lime.
This one is much milder, much more tame than
the Island Style. As far as heat level,
this one would probably be like a 3 and
I was actually digging the other one a little bit more. So I would probably give this one a 3.5 out of 5.
But not bad, its got a nice little mix up
if you don't like the strong heat, you'd probably want to go with that one.
Now, looking on over here, we got the Habanero- Mango. As far the ingredients its got
onions, habanero peppers, tomato, jalapeno peppers, mango
spices, little bit of vinegar, and its even got some brown sugar in there to give it some sweetness.
It has got a...I can tell this one is going to be hot. It has a nice little
flavor to it. Pretty thick stuff here as well.
You know you are getting high quality stuff when it comes out like this.
It's not bad. I thick it is even more mild than the Island Style.
As far as the heat scale, it is getting a little bit hotter (than the Emerald Sauce) but
I'd probably give it a 4 out of 10. As far as the 5 star scale, it's
pretty good. Just getting a little bit of hint of the mangoes.
So I am going to give it a 4 out of 5. You guys definitely want to check out Humboldt Hot Sauce.
Check them out at Whole Foods. Very good stuff. Highly recommended.
Thank you guys for watching. Talk to you later. Bye.
Warriors come out and play.
