H: ...when Sølvguttene ("The silver boys" is a large, famous boy's choir who is on NRK1 every single Christmas eve at 5 in the afternoon, "singing in the Christmas") and Didrik Solli-Tangen are going on tour with Ole Edvard Antonsen.
We will talk with them soon, but first a look at this.
H: Welcome to the two of you, we couldn't fit Sølvguttene in here. It's very nice that you could come.
Didrik & Ole: Thank you, very nice.
H: First, Ole Edvard Antonsen, I understand that this started when you saw Didrik Solli-Tangen in the Norwegian ESC finale.
OEA: Yes, he came right through the screen musically, and I thought he had a wonderful voice, so I thought I would like to work with him one day.
And now we have the possibility, so now we'll be working quite a lot together in December.
H: You got to know each other during the making of the reality show 71' North, isn't that correct?
DST & OEA: Yes, that's right. H: Did you talk a lot about music then?
OEA: Yes, both during the transport legs, but also in the field when we spent the nights in a tent and went hiking, so we both wanted to do something musically together.
DST: So now we thought: Why haven't we done this before? H: Do you have a lot in common?
DST: Yes, really, both musically speaking and on a more personal level. We both like electronics and thingies and stuff.
H: You were talking about a new TV set. So it's not just about music in your lives then.
DST: No, it's important that now we're going on the road, it's nice to have something else to talk about as well, so I think this is going to go very well.
OEA: We share the same kind of humour, so even if there is a large gap between us when it comes to age.
I was the senior in the 71', and he was junior, and we both got to the finale. So even if he won the title.
H: To mention the more serious things: You will be singing with Sølvguttene. Didrik, have you ever sung in a choir?
DST: Never sung in a choir in fact. That's a little.... perhaps some think it's strange, but singing became part of my life rather late, to put it that way.
I didn't start to sing properly until I was 16 - 17 years old. Then the choir-bit - at least the Sølvguttene-bit was over. So then it was just going on solo.
H: How is your relationship with Sølvguttene?
DST: I have sung with them at least once or twice before, and it's great listening to them, and there's nothing that says Christmas more than when you hear them in church.
H: What is on the repertoire on these concerts?
OEA: Christmas is full of traditions, and there will be a lot of the traditional Christmas repertoire.
We have called this pre-Christmas tour "December moods", and there are many things that join in to create the December mood.
So we'll be doing much traditional, both classical and sacral, to something easier.
Didrik will of course sing "Oh Holy Night"- that one has to be on the repertoire - and there is room for something newer.
In as much as there is a band, it is meant to make a mood.
H: Why is it that so many of us connect Sølvguttene with Christmas?
OEA: To me personally, it can't be really Christmas in my home before Sølvguttene has sung at 17.00 Christmas eve on NRK1.
Then there is peace and quiet. I guess they have a lot to do around Christmas.
DST: It's tradition. It has become a tradition that has lasted for a while both for you and me.
OEA: Sølvguttene is going to be with us on some of the concerts, and Didrik will be on some of the concerts, so ... There are only a few places that we all meet at the same concert.
H: Didrik has done many different genres. Do you feel you have settled down in the classical now?
DST: Yes, more or less. I feel myself that I have most to offer, on a personal level, development-like, in the classical. I can say that now I've finished school.
H: That went really well, I've heard.
DST: Got my letter, or my papers, and it's just so great. I hope to be able to work with that, but also do other things.
I think it's great fun to experiment a little. That's one more thing we have in common, we have the classical background, but we like to have some fun too. But that's where we belong.
H: What are the ambitions in the future? DST: It's to sing as much as possible.
OEA: Christmas songs DST: Christmas songs, yes, in full churches.
H: We are going to classical concerts at Christmas, and particularly Sølvguttene, but also other things.
Do you think that increases the interest for classical music, or do we just go back to pop and rock in January?
DST: That was a strange question, but for my part, I really want to make the younger generation conscious of all the great classical music there is.
And because I have got this - how do I put it - crossover stamp, I can contribute to bring new people in to the classical music. That's what I hope.
H: Have good luck on your tour, and thank you for coming to Morgennytt.
DST & OEA: Thank you very much!
