Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ.
When I checked up "Deaf Orthodox Christian" group...
They were discussing about Orthodox signing, how to sign... For example, Theokotos, Begotten, Saint,
Theophany, and Bishop.
Those words, how to sign correctly. As I've seen some people came up with signs which were mistaken.
I don't want to use Protestant and Catholic signs.
We will use Orthodox signs with Orthodox's views.
Of course, I will make a new video about "Our Father".
OK. For now, I will explain about those 5 words. 1. Theokotos
Some of them use sign like this "T" which is error.
Theokotos means God-bearer in Greek.
In Armenian, "Astvadzadzin" means God-bearer also.
For English, It's the Mother of God, of course. However, it wouldn't match Theokotos in Greek.
But Theokotos means God-bearer. Is it clear for this sign? "God-bearer" is correctly sign.
2. "Begotten". Some of them sign like this... etc.
As for me, the correctly sign is this Begotten. Because it relates to God, the Begotten which is Christ. Not made; Begotten.
3. Saint. Some signs like these "S" or "holy person". For me, I sign like this "Saint"
It's very simple. Saint.
Next. Theophany. What does it means? Most people usually say Merry Christmas.
That is, the feast of Theophany. Once again, what does it means?
It means the revelation of God. That's what it means. Theophany = the revelation of God.
Next, Bishop. Some of them signs like this"bishop", that, or that. We wouldn't use them.
As for Orthodoxy, it's correctly sign is this "bishop".
Because all Orthodox bishops wear necklace's shape like "O". You notice? That's why I sign like this Bishop.
As you could see some signs differently. Not like this bishop because it has nothing to do with bishop.
As this bishop could be used but it also could be relates to priests as well. So better sign like this bishop.
Almost done. "Our Father".
"Give us this day our daily bread"
"and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors."
"And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil."
As you seen these quotes, I will sign them in the prayer. You will see them how different between the ordinary and real ASL.
With Orthodox's view.
Why I made this video because my friend Greg and I were discussed last night.
We shared our concerns about the mistaken signs with Orthodox's view.
We don't want mix signs which come from Protestant and Catholic. We prefer the Orthodox signs. So we agreed.
When will we have official videos about the signs, words, etc. such as services, hymns, prayers, etc.?
The next fall because I will be attending Gallaudet University.
So my friend Greg lives in MD. It's good for us to work together since we live closer.
We can provide more of videos with the Orthodox signs. It's amazing, isn't it?
Therefore, please wait and have a bear with us.
As God give us whatever we can do to take our time and to how correct signs.
With terms, we will study them in Greek; not only English but in Greek, Armenian, others to make correct signs.
Thank you for watching!
May God bless you for your patience. So thank you again.
I forgot to add something.
We have to wait for our bishop's blessing firstly.
Then we can do our work.
So wait a bit longer and have a bear with us. Thank you!
