I'm Barry O'Grady; a lecturer in Curtin's School of Economics and Finance.
I'm also behind an idea that brings the global financial markets to Curtin, and takes the
university to the cutting- edge of the finance industry.
That idea -- the Curtin Business School Trading Room -- became a reality in 2010.
As somebody who has personally experienced trading, I've come to respect the financial
market for the unforgiving environment that it is.
There is no better preparation for a career in that field than having a real-world style
Trading Room, where our future Captains of Industry can pit themselves against the market.
The nerve centre of the CBS Trading Room is our suite of top market software. The Bloomberg
Professional Software used by traders and bankers across the globe.
This facility brings to life 16 specialised dual-screen terminals, tracking real-time
finance data, price quotes and breaking financial news.
The Trading Room gives our students what's known as a 'first mover advantage'. It was
one of the very first facilities of its kind in Australia, and the first here in the West.
Where we are well placed to tap into the important and growing Asian markets.
The Trading Room also makes a significant contribution to the university's research
endeavours and, understandably, it's become a great place to present course materials.
The fact that the Trading Room is such a hit during Curtin Open Days is a good indicator
of how impressive it is.
So if you haven't had the chance to have a look at it yourself, please do so!
