Hi, everyone! How's it going?
We're lauching today our channel "No Alvo".
We will be showing this sport, archery,
for who doesn't know anything about it
and we will also be giving tips for those
that already practice the sport.
We will be showing tips about equipment,
technique and competitions.
In this first video, it will be presented to you
a competition olympic recurve bow, but in other videos
we will be talking about each part of the bow, individually,
about basic technique and tips for your first steps into
this sport, and much more.
My name is Bernardo Oliveira, I'm a member of the brazilian
archery team, I've taken part in several competitions
outside Brazil since 2008.
In the year of 2012 I won Brazil's olympic spot,
I ended up not going to the London games, but I took part
in the "Olympic Living Program", which took 16 young
brazilian athletes to London 2012 to get olympic experience
thinking about the 2016 Games.
Now we're going to show you some of the bow.
Well, it might not look like, but this is a bow.
It has nothing to do with those traditional or medieval bows
that you see in the movies, this is the modern version
I'll start showing this central, yellow part.
It is called "riser". It is the center of bow.
Basically, all other pieces fit into it.
It is the "body" for the bow itself.
These ends are called limbs. They give all the tension to the bow
and will throw the arrow towards the target.
These tubes are the stabilizers. They basically add weight to the bow.
The heavier the bow is, the steadier it is when you're aiming.
They also make the bow's center of mass go foward, which helps
during the shot. They end up absorbing vibration, also.
This is a small part, damper, which also just adds some weight
and absorbs vibration after the shot.
This is the sight, which gives a reference point, for the archer to
be able to aim. But it's just a reference.
We call this small piece button, or cushion plunger. Which adjusts
the flight of the arrow when it's leaving the bow. But it's a piece
a bit complex that has a lot to do with the bow tuning. We can
talk a lot about it in other videos.
Now showing a bit of the other side.
This piece over here is a bit different. It is the clicker.
It serves for giving the archer a better notion of in which
position the arrow is. That because if the point of the arrow is a bit
backwards, the arrow will be leaving the bow with more strength.
If the point is a bit foward, it'll be leaving with less strength.
When the point of the arrow passes here, it make this "click".
Letting the archer know in which position the arrow is, allowing
a more constant shot.
So everyone, that's it for today.
I hope you have enjoyed the video.
