In this video will I, who am almost a MMD beginner, teach you the most basic of the basic MMD operations, using a Hetalia MMD model.
The recent release of the Hetalia MMD models caused an incredible rush.
So people who wasn't interested in MMD, might want to begin with MMD now. I bet it!
The MMD world is giving people an impression that the MMD world is quite a big hurdle.
So I think it would be good if there were tutorial videos for complete beginners.
I don't understand the more difficult MMD things well yet.
But I think that it's better for complete beginner to be taught by a user with only slightly better skills.
That's my theory.
So if you relax and watch this video, then I will be glad.
First let's download the MMD software! Our story starts from here.
But... Huh? There are many versions...
I will explain these versions.
For people who want to use Hetalia, Basara Models. -> Ver.5 or 7 (*1).
For people who lack a powerful computer. -> Ver.5.
If ver.5 doesn't work well on your computer. -> Oh, then I'm sorry...
After downloading MMD, please download the models you want to use. Generally, the download URL is in the release video of the model.
After download, please store the model files in a "model" folder under the "UserFile" folder in the MMD folder.
And without doubt, there is read-me text file among model files.
Make sure to read the read-me text. The readme text contains various precautions.
The precautions tell about allowed modifications of model, allowed categories of videos that model may be used in, etc... Please respect model creator's wishes!
Sorry to keep you waiting. Now let's start MMD! And let's load and manipulate a model!
When you start MMD, MMD shows nothing on the screen. Models and stages will be loaded at the white space.
There is russet "model manipulation" panel in the lower left of the screen.
Please push the "load" button under "camera/light/accessory".
Then the "model" folder, where you stored your model files a little while ago, is opened. The pmd file is the model data file.
You select the pmd file and push the "open" and "OK" buttons. Then Prussia appears! Prussia! You are so adorable, Prussia!
After loading Prussia, let's look at him from every possible angle carefully.
First you drag while keeping down the right mouse button. That way, you can watch and enjoy him from every possible angle, like this:
90% of the MMD users will try to let the angle change with right-drag at other's videos. Oh, how silly!
There is a green cross shape arrow icon in the upper right part of the screen. If you move the cursor onto the icon and drag it with left mouse button, you can move the POV (Point of View) and enjoy Prussia!
There is a magnifier icon at next to the green cross shape arrow icon. If you move the cursor onto the icon and drag it with the left mouse button, then you can zoom in/out.
Incidentally, you can zoom in/out also with mouse scroll wheel.
Furthermore, if you drag with the left mouse button while pushing Shift or Ctrl Key, then you can move the POV with smaller steps. It's good to use them to control the camera.
And there is dark blue "view" panel in the lower right of the screen. You can change the POV by pushing the buttons.
When you push the "front" button, you will return to face view, so you can enjoy Prussia again.

If we keep on watching, the sun will set. For now, I will explain the bone control.
As you see, there are bones in the models.
There is dark blue "bone manipulation" panel in the lower middle of the screen. If you push the "select" button, then MMD goes to the selectable bone mode.
Incidentally, I am telling you a MMD shortcut. By pushing the "C" key you can change between selectable/non-selectable bone mode, without pushing the "select" button.
If you push the "C" key and click the circle mark of a bone, then the bone is selected and turns red.
The selected bone name is in the upper right of the bone operation panel.
If you select the right shoulder, then "shoulder_R" is seen there. If you select the neck, then "neck" is seen there.
And this black table in the left part of the screen is the "bone/frame manipulation" panel.
The table is lined with names of bone (upper body, arm, etc).
If you select a bone in the right part of the screen, then the bone name is highlighted in the table.
And if you click a bone name in the table, that bone is selected.
Please click the bone name in the table, when it's hard to select bone in the the right part of the screen.
Then, let's watch the "bone manipulation" panel while selecting neck bone.
There is a "rotate" button in the panel. It you push this button, then the bone manipulation handle appears.
The handle is colour-coded in 3 different colours. You can rotate the bones in each direction.
You move mouse cursor onto the handle. Then the part of handle under cursor becomes yellow. Incidentally, a shortcut of "rotate" button is "X" key.
Please remember following sequence. 1. Please push the "C" key (to turn MMD into selectable bone mode). 2. Please click a bone (to select it). 3. Please push the "X" key (to show the bone control handle).
Please move mouse cursor onto red part of the handle, and look at the vertical bar. Now you can rotate the bones in the forward and rear directions.
When you rotate the bones like this, you will think "Oops! I fractured his neck! Please return!" If you push the "reset" button in the "bone control" panel, Prussia will recover instantly.
Please don't give up! Please move the mouse cursor onto blue part of the handle. Then, you can rotate the bones in the right and left directions.
On green part, you can rotate the bones clockwise or anticlockwise.
After you have enjoyed this fully, let's reset it. *Sigh*
With this handle, you control the angle of the bones in the current screen.
For example: When you use the handle in side view, if you use same part of the handle at in front view, then you will rotate the bones in different directions.
Probably, you'll get it as you go along.
There is also another way to control bones. There are red, green, blue icons at the lower right of the screen. These are different from the handle.
First, please push the "C" key and select a bone, and move mouse cursor onto these icons. Then, 3 bars will appear. There are a red one, a blue one, and a green one.
Please move mouse cursor onto red icon (the X icon). Then, you can rotate the bone around the red X-axis by dragging with the mouse. When the cursor is onto the red icon, then the X-axis is red, red bar.
When the cursor is onto the green icon (Y icon), the Y-axis is green, green bar.
When it's onto blue icon (Z icon), the Z-axis is blue, blue bar. By using them, you will get to know the difference between using the handle or the icons.
In the beginning, it's no problem that you only will use the one you like best.
After you are finished with the bones and have made pose, then please push the Enter key. Then, red diamond shape will appear in the "frame manipulation" panel is the black area in the left part of the screen.
This red diamond means that the bones were fixed in the pose at the frame.
Without bone save registration onto the frame by pushing enter key, no matter how much you manipulate the bones, your pose will disappear when you move on to the next frame.
Pushing the "C" key, selecting a bone, showing the handle by pushing the "X" key, manipulating the bones, and pushing enter key to save properly... ...The basic control of MMD is to repeat that sequence over and over.
The way to control the bone movements is like this: Select a bone, rotate the bone, push the enter key. You will do nothing else than repeating this routine.
