it's about two years ago now hi handsome I'm 29 taste
and I'm within two weeks I received I
letter terminating the contract to work and so I had to go to Union
armed with their support I took my employer to tribunal
and time won my case I'm trying to buy this was a pregnant say
do you think that employers are now waking up to
did discrimination as so many people in the survey
well would see it I and actually as time progresses
this will be something which is confront it head on and on
blossoming become a thing of the past I do hope that eventually will become a
thing of the past
and one thing has come to light obviously I'm I've matter of a couple
people have been through this situation now
and it's amazing how everybody seems to know somebody who's been discriminated
against
in some manner whether it's that they've been forcefully having that hours change
what they felt they were being bullied in the workplace
or whether they have actually enter that losing their jobs and it's amazing how
many people
don't actually do I G and don't take it to a tribunal
I'm because they don't necessarily have the support network or they don't have
the knowledge to understand
that that is something they can do and that discrimination is not correct
most businesses would be concerned if we felt this was the
yet the general picture and i think is I go around the country talking to
business leaders
they would say the they're really focused on skill shortages in making the
best at their people
under very aware of the legal a
duty not to discriminate against I women when they're pregnant
on maternity leave or even when they might be pregnant I suspect that what
this survey is pointing to is a fact that
businesses haven't quite reached all those line managers
who maybe have some old-fashioned attitudes that we
need to work on changing and where she going to do about changing then?
well across all the business community and business leaders
are communicating very clearly that chat we're interested in giving
women a pipeline to the top a bit businesses that
runs through their child care bearing years we've done lots of work with
groups like 30 percent club boats have aldrin representations
for women and with the groups like the agile future for which is really about
making flexible working
and work-life balance about more than just being a women's issue
I think when we start talking about flexibility in work life balance for
every employee
a lot of that young moms and
pregnant women will find to get a better deal because the culture the workplace
will change
the real only concerning thing I fell in the survey findings
day was the number women who would advise their colleagues not to tell
their employers at the pregnant we've got to get away from a legalistic
approach to this too
viewing where when a woman gets pregnant
it being right that their employer and and then sit there and say well how do
you want to work this
how can we come to a deal that works for you and work for the company
and I think if we can get into that space rather than viewing it constantly
through
very legalistic framework then will be it will get better results both sides
