A little away sits a second of 6 Danish spain volunteers.
83 year old Karl Christensen from Amager, and look like a high-polished railway lines.
Today's program includes one of the absolute highlights of the trip.
As many of the Spain-volunteers have seen specifically for.
For the visit of the Spanish Congress where Los Brigadistas Internationales -
- be appointed as Honorary Spanish Citizens.
As a well-intentioned, albeit somewhat belated thanks for their efforts.
Karl has stipulated that he must first be allowed to keep a little speech.
I have taken a jacket on. And tie. It is ordered by my wife.
It is almost the whole has happened to me.
Then I finely decorated.
With the Inter-Brigade's handsome three-eyed star.
As only to the Inter-Brigadister.
They are distributed free.
But inside, I have as an absolute interest in the matter.
To see how it buckles. If I allowed to say the the few words.
I just talked Perés. The President of the Board.
And she thought it would be possible to do so.
But ***, - Spanish it's Spanish. It is of course as you see.
First we had to get at 10:30, so it was changed to at 12. And now it is again changed to 10:30.
We must take it as it comes, when you are in Spain.
So it was in '36 too.
We waited and waited for the guns.
The visit of the Congress will be quite different than Karl has counted.
In a small side-room is the bigadists -
- all other participants of the trip, all the relatives, -
- a large press turnout shown in, and wait some time.
And then follows a half hours speak only in Spanish.
And so are all sent out again.
None of the Danish brigadists understood the speakers.
But the ceremony is already over.
Afterwards they become aware that the ruling party Partido Popular,
NOT wish to receive the brigadists. Or celebrating them.
Instead, the 2nd Congressional Vice President who is from the opposition who has presented himself.
And the evidence of Honorary citizenship are earlier in the day -
- been delivered at once in a tube.
As Karl notes the following day:
Now, yesterday we were in Cortes, inside their parliament.
It was once "joggen in spinach." We stood there and pounding and pushed to enter.
And when we came in. so we had to squeeze the other way out.
Someone who gave a speech there, or two. There were two who gave a speech.
Then there was no more, then it was off again. We thought there was some ceremony held.
Then we were told that one of the comrades, incidentally, the oldest, -
- he had been sent out a place to retrieve our citizenship.
Our Honorary Citizenship.
And we have then also also received it.
And it is as I have told you. It is a piece of paper that says a lot of good...
With names and everything.
And it comes out to hang at home between 2 prizes from the colony Garden Association.
Getting it up and hang on the wall at home in my room.
I had thought it had been more solemn. With handshakes, etc.
With one or another man from above.
A man from above...
Yes, from the city government or from the state even.
That you would then expect, when when it is a state honorary citizenship.
That you would then expect. But it was not.
It was delivered at once in a tube. Yes. And it was nicely handed out to us.
So we have it. That's all.
It was pretty much without prompt.
And without any ceremony or anything.
