a lot of these greenhouse gases are heat trapping gases particularly carbon dioxide are very
long lived in the atmosphere
so the changes that we're experiencing today that paul and i've been talking about they're
actually do
to carbon dioxide that was put up in the atmosphere at the beginning of the nineteen hundreds
so carbon dioxide lives in the atmosphere about a hundred years so when it so there's a lot
of momentum in this system
you know there's things that
that take a long time to develop which means it's gonna take a long time
to move them back
so %um when you visualize the carbon dioxide that's going out of your tailpipe for example
or out of the power plant down the street and you think about it going up into the atmosphere
and creating this blanket this is the blanket that's gonna be there long after we're dead
so what we do today matters a lot

%um i don't think what we've said this before but scientists are projecting by the end
of the century by twenty one hundred an increase in global temperature of between
two and a half to ten and a half degrees fahrenheit fahrenheit wow
now sometimes people say oh well between two and a half and ten-and-a-half
that's because scientists you know are not sure or the models aren't sure
that's not what the difference is between two and ten
