Bloodied and beaten, Antonio Zacarias Arias struggles on the floor. Filmed by colleagues
as he tries to regain his footing.
He's shoved around before being led out of the police headquarters in Villahermosa in Mexico.
Arias is the deputy director of police in the capital of Tabasco state but confidence
in him has failed.
The camera also captures a brutal fight in the yard between the striking police and those
they allege are corrupt.
This man is the leader of the strikers. He says they want General Audomaro Martinez Zapata
to step down immediately and that they will strike for as long as it takes. He also says
they will stay so that politicians can hear their grievances about low pay and bad conditions
on the job.
Zapata is Villahermosa's town police chief and an ex-army general who took the job in
2012. The striking police officers claim he, along with a number of other officers, should
face corruption charges.
