When people around me hear the word "cloth diaper" they immediately think
of folding, safety pins, leaking diapers and smelly piles of washing. In general:
a lot of work and trouble.
However, modern diapers have a very trim design and are shaped like disposable diapers.
They are easy to handle and even dad, grandma or the babysitter
have no problems. Lie the baby down down, straighten and close. Done! In principle
you need no longer than with a disposable. Cloth diapers are cosy,
snuggle to your baby and give her enough freedom of movement.
They are not much thicker than a full disposable and they fit well
under regular sized baby clothes. They have another advantage: They have a built-in system of snaps and
adjust to any baby's size from birth to almost 3 years.
You have to buy them just once. Disposables, on the other hand, you need
to buy new every single time. And you have to take out the trash over and over again. Maybe you need
to order a larger garbage can?
And the washing? Nowadays you can use a disposable diaper liner. It catches
most of the poo. Then you can throw it to the the garbage or flush it down the toilet.
Then the diaper goes into the diaper bin. Then into the washing machine
and you turn it on. Peg out washing or tumble dry, compose, ready.
You see, cloth diapers are not as bad as in the olden days. They are comfortable,
practical and they are fun.
