Good day, my name’s Tim Welsh and I live in the beautiful township of Ulong,
which is only 40 minutes away from Coffs Harbour.
I moved down here with my family from Brisbane about four years ago.
I was working in advertising and marketing in Brisbane
and we just had our first child and we were looking to move somewhere
where we could get somewhat of a better work life balance.
We moved here and the great thing about living in a place
where we’ve got access to broadband is, I can pretty much do all of my work
sitting in a small town like this.
I’m working with a government agency here on the mid-north coast and as well
as having clients in both Brisbane and Melbourne that I still service.
This is the Strategic Leadership Conference that we run each year in Port Macquarie.
All of this work gets done up in Coffs Harbour and sent down
to the office down here in Port Macquarie and yeah, [inaudible 00:01:07].
Teleworking has a number of benefits including some environmental benefits.
Being 40 minutes away, I can have a fuel bill of up to $100 a week easily.
There’s an economic benefit for me there obviously as well,
but just not having to drive continuously to work, I can tailor
my work day around what’s required from my clients and also what’s
required from my life in general.
As a marketer, I’m involved in quite a bit of social media
and social media is very time present and it requires you to be tweeting
at certain times to be able to talk to certain groups.
I can be sitting at home working at 7:00 at night and tweeting
and that’s part of my work day whereas, I can still be spending time
with my family while I’m doing that,
it’s not incringing on that aspect of my life.
Thanks for taking the time to watch this video.
I hope I’ve been able to show you the benefits of teleworking
and how it works for me and I hope you’ll be able to talk
to your organization about being able to do the same thing
and how that might help them and help you as well.
