Welcome Nostalgics! this is Digital Nostalgia
Videogames introduced us lots of characters, some of them remarkable, some of them not
but anyone can deny
that the most famous one is Mario
He's not only been Nintendos's mascot for almost 30 years, he also have been the main character in around 200
Games
but there was a time when this famous plumber, wasn't famosus, wasn't a plumber
and wasn't even known as Mario!
in the year 1981 Nintendo asked Shigeru Miyamoto to create a story for a game to compete against Pac Man
which was the most
popular at that moment
the first idea was to use the Popeye Characters
but he couldn't get the rights
so he changed Brutus by Donkey Kong, Olive by Pauline
and Popeye by Jumpman
this was the first name that Mario received and he wasn't a plumber
but a carpenter in the game Donkey Kong
it was not until 1983 in Mario Bros that he was renamed and changed his job to plumber
but he had another job too
he was a wrecker in the game wrecking crew, which is the one we're reviewing today
but first lets recap, mario was a carpenter, plimber, wrecker... is like he could do everithing!
Mario! we need a carpenter!
Mario! we need a wrecker!
Mario! we need a plumber!
Mario! there aren't any more prostitutes in the kindom
hello pretty
Mamma Mia!!!!
well Mario
you're not the one uncloging pipes this time.
anyway, everything is set so lets take our hammer and lets play wrecking crew!
it was created by Yoshio Sakamoto in the year 1985 for the Nintendo
it has an arcade-puzzle style and the goal is to destroy all
breakable objets
avoiding enemies and fireballs to achieve next level and obtain the highest score
in the main screen we can select any of the 100 levels this game offers
we can select one or two player mode, player one will control Mario
and player two Luigi
we have a hammer to achieve our goal, but it´s too heavy and that's why
we can't jump
among destructible objets we have pilars that requires one hit
two kinds of walls that require two or three hits and white ladders
there ase also bombs that will make our job easier, generating a chain reaction that can destroy many objets at the same time
getting more score, but be carefull not to break a ladder before time
or you'll be trapped
so, the order we destroy objets is essential to advance
but if you get trapped, you may reset the game pressing SELECT
lets talk about the enemies, there are 4 kind of them, each with an specific pattern
so studding the enemies behaviour is very useful to in order to avoid them
there is no way to eliminate them, we can only stun them with bombs or lock up them in barrels
but careful or you could get trapped
other way to avoid them is using green doors that takes enemies
to the backgound, by doing this you wont have to worry about them,
unless they find another open door
the most annoying enemy appears first on level 7, his name is Spike
which is believed to be the first version of Wario, he will do everything
in order to make you fall
there's no way to eliminate him, but we can annoy him in the same way
there are some elements that can be helpful in the game, behind some walls we may find hidden letters
and we can spell MARIO in order to get extra lives
in order to do that we have to break those walls in an specific order
detonating 3 bombs makes that objets appear in order to get points
but doing it in an specific order will give us the golden hammer
this hammer allow us to break walls faster and with only one hit
stun enemies
and if we press the hit button fast enogh on an edge it will allow Mario to fly
but if you lose or reset the level you'll lose it
after a certain number of stages we will have a bonus round
where we will compete against Spike in order to find the hidden coin
the music of this game was used in the game Dance Dance revolution Mario mix
and when we get the golden hammer in Super Smash Brothers Brawl
we also have a level editor where we can set 4 levels
we have a save and load option
that doesn't work because this game was first designed for the
famicom data recorder which was released only in Japan
in 2004 was relaunchen in the famicom mini series for the Game Boy Advance,
for the Wii and 3DS where this options were enabled
it was released for the super famicom from Japan, wrecking crew 98
in this game we can choose the classic version or the new one
this time with a more competitive aproach, a puzzle style like columns
we can choose between story mode or tournament, it's fun to play, but I would had liked a new version of the classic game style
with new levels and secrets
even so, if you have the chance, try it, I recommend it
this Mario game wasn't so popular campared to the other "Marios"
and as time went by, it was slowly being forgotten
Some even rated it as a bad Mario game, but I disagree, it's ingenious
has lots of levels and secrets
sometimes it's frustrating but that's part of the difficulty
That wa wrecking crew, now if you excuse me I have to go to work
