>>ANNOUNCER: Now 13-WHAM Sports.
>>ANCHOR: All right, tomorrow we should have a first for RIT hockey. Chris Tanev is set
to become the first former Tiger to play in an NHL game when he suits up for the Vancouver
Canucks. With more, here's 13-WHAM's Chuck Wade.
>>REPORTER: Last year, the Frozen Four. Tomorrow night, the NHL. Former RIT star Chris Tanev
makes history, and his biggest cheering section will be right here in Rochester.
>>ADAM HARTLEY: Pretty wild, you know. Last year he was a guy helping me with homework
and stuff. He's a really smart kid as well. Now he's in the NHL.
>>REPORTER: RIT head coach Wayne Wilson admitted he didn't think Tanev was ready for the pro
game, but that's not because of his talent.
>>WAYNE WILSON: His body was still very immature and needed to grow, and I thought he was going
to need time from that perspective. But that was my opinion, and he understood what his
weaknesses were and went about working to get those better.
>>CHRIS TANEV: Growing up smaller you've got to learn to play the game a little bit different
and being able to move the puck quicker to avoid hits and brace yourself for hits and
stuff like that.
>>REPORTER: They skated with pride today knowing that one of their former mates plays in the
big show tomorrow night and that they had a had in making it happen.
>>MARK CORNACCHIA: We all feel that we're a part of this just because we went through
an entire season with Chris and anytime you see one of your friends, one of your former
teammates make it to this level, it's exciting for all of us.
>>REPORTER: Tanev's NHL debut starts at 9 o'clock tomorrow night in Colorado. Unfortunately,
that's the same time many of his former teammates have to attend a mandatory on-campus speaker
here at RIT. With the Tigers, Chuck Wade, 13-WHAM sports.
>>ANCHOR: Yeah, the DVRs will be rolling.
