Some types of questions such as true/false and multiple choice are graded automatically
in Blackboard…
while others such as essay questions must be graded manually.
You also have the option of adjusting a grade for an automatically graded question.
This tutorial will show you how to view and grade tests in Blackboard.
In this example, we will be accessing the Grade Test page in the Grade Center.
To access the Grade Test page from Grade Center, start at the Control Panel.
Expand the Grade Center section down and select Full Grade Center.
Once in the Grade Center, locate the cell for a student's test that contains an exclamation
mark.
This is the Needs Grading icon.
Move the mouse pointer over the cell to see the Action link and click it to see the contextual
menu.
Select Attempt at the bottom of the list.
Once the screen refreshes, you should be on the Grade Test page.
Here, you can review the student's answers and grade any questions that require manual
grading.
You can also override a grade that was graded automatically.
To assign a grade to a test question or to change a question that was graded automatically,
simply click on the text box to the right of the question number.
After clicking, add the number of points for that question.
After assigning points to questions that need to be manually graded, you also have the option
of typing feedback to the user and grading notes.
Grading notes are private and can only be seen by the instructor…while feedback to
users or feedback to an individual response will be seen by students.
When you are finished assigning points and giving any feedback, click Submit or click
Save and Exit.
You will be returned to the Needs Grading page or the Grade Center page.
If available, click the Save and Exit to go to the next test.
Once back in Full Grade Center view, you'll notice that the Unit 1 Quiz cell for our student
Steve Guest has thirty points and the Needs Grading icon is now gone.
This test has now been assigned a grade of thirty points.
The student will be able to see his or her grade in the My Grades tool if you've made
this available to them.
You have some additional options for grading on the Needs Grading page.
To access the Needs Grading page, go to the Control Panel, expand the Grade Center section
down and select Needs Grading.
On the Needs Grading page, you can filter and find a specific test using several drop-downs
from the top bar.
When you are finished using the drop-downs to filter the items you would like to grade,
click the Go button and the item will appear underneath.
To grade an item in this list, click the Action link and choose Grade All Users.
Here, you will be taken back to the Grade Test page which you saw previously in this
tutorial.
Once back on the Needs Grading page, you can see several additional options for grading
by clicking the Action link next to the item you selected earlier.
Grading anonymously ensures impartial evaluation of student work.
You can choose to grade tests anonymously or if you are grading by question to grade
subjective questions such as essay, file response, and short answer anonymously.
In anonymous grading, all identifying information about students is hidden.
You may choose to view and grade by question which allows you to move from test to test
viewing and scoring the same question for each student.
Choosing View Attempts will provide a summary of all attempts in list form.
This concludes the tutorial on Viewing and Grading Tests.
