My name is Hayley Buellens and I have been a web designer for six years. I predominantly
specialise in creating WordPress websites and specialise in social media.
What strategies do you use to generate revenue for your websites?
I have a number of strategies; the first is email marketing. So when I build websites,
I ensure there is a highly functional yet visually appealing opt-in box; usually with
an offer to attract subscribers. I also use affiliate marketing as an income stream, which
is highly effective if set up and used correctly. Then there's designing a great user experience
with an easy to check out function, with multiple payment gateways such as PayPal and credit
card. So there’s a lot of marketing hints and tips we can incorporate.
How do you ensure a consistent look with the brand and website?
It's all about using consistent brand colours and features across the site. So picking your
chosen hues and then designing artwork buttons and fonts throughout the design of the site.
A consistent look can be achieved using consistent fonts and only using a few recognisable fonts.
How do you incorporate SEO into your websites?
I offer my clients a few choices for SEO — every package comes with a basic SEO plugin to encourage
SEO-friendly content. For those wanting advanced SEO, I offer a site audit and also a DIY strategy
package to map out a plan moving forward that includes making sure my clients understand
how to undertake keyword research and understand the elements of on-page which requires to
be optimised on any given webpage such as H1 tags, H titles, keywords, descriptions, web content and alt-tags.
How do you work with social media?
So, in terms of building the website I integrate Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest feeds on to
my website. Usually quite effective to gain new followers to a page by having, you know,
widgets down the left or right of the page and at the bottom of the page. It can also
be incorporated in blogs. There’s lots of different styles and little icons that we
can put on the page. We can also link them back to social media profiles and choose beautiful
icons that go with the client's branding – change the fonts, etc.
What’s something that customers might not know about website designing?
I would have to say that a beautiful user-friendly website doesn’t need to cost a fortune,
my prices start at $695 and this is a flat rate regardless of the features you’re after
such as video, live chat, opt-in form, membership portal. So I really focus on the client's needs
and requirements and can build a website around those as opposed to charging thousands of dollars.
