unfortunately there are some people out there who are involved in the movement for other
reasons, maybe not so many, but I think thatÕs what having kids included in regular ed does,
is give some people who don't have a direct personal experience with disability that that
is a ... that that's something to do, thatÕs some kind of a mission or a calling. I also
see an opportunity for this push in multiculturalism. We think about it in terms of ethnic and cultural
diversity, but that is a chance for disability to be introduced itÕs definitely a culture.
I remember a time that Laura Robens came to Partners and shocked parents was to talk about
the fact that their child is of a different culture than they are. Parents were really
resistant to that idea, but I think itÕs important to talk about disabilities and culture.
Maybe that's an opportunity to insert it in places you would not expect to.
