>>Joe: A court in the province of Minya Egypt, just south of Cairo, has sentenced 528 supports
of the recently ousted Muslim Brotherhood to death in the slaying of a police officer
that occurred during the massive riots after former President Mohammend Morsi was forced
out of office. >> Elliott: They were charged with ***,
attempted *** and stealing government weapons. If the conviction of so many at once and their
impending death sentences seems extreme, it’s because it is. The government is cracking
down on anything and everything connected to the Muslim Brotherhood and this is a warning
of sorts. >> Joe: According to the BBC, there will be
appeals and death sentences are commonly handed down in the state, but they are rarely carried
through to the end. You see, the military backed government just doesn’t want any
guff. >> Elliott: And that’s why they’ve declared
that the Brotherhood is a terrorist organization. Oh ya, they’ve also outlawed any kind of
demonstrations supporting Morsi and really, anybody acting up against the military backed
government. >> Joe: No more demonstrations?
>> Elliott: No more demonstrations. >> Joe: So they can’t do the thing that
resulted in the bad president getting kicked out in the first place.
>> Elliott: Nope. >> Joe: Shame shame military backed standing
government. >> Elliott: The verdict dropped after just
two court sessions and the defendants’ lawyers are speaking out against the swift verdict,
claiming they didn’t even get the chance to defend their clients.
>> Joe: Another 700 supports are set to go on trial tomorrow. According to one report,
16,000 people have been arrested since the military decided to go Goodfellas on the Muslim
Brotherhood and Islamist supporters. >> Elliott: And Egypt is just a mess of violence
as the country inches closer to elections.
