We've had a very long and cold winter and certainly colleagues
and patients alike have been saying to me how difficult it's been for them.
They are feeling less energy and they're feeling
like their mood is dropping and I think this is just what's going on in our community
and our society and it happens with this kind of long winter. But there are
things that can be done about it. The first thing has to do with
activity so even though it's cold, being physically active is
a way of improving both your energy and mood and that may be if you have
exercise equipment in your house, but just even taking a brisk walk
and I accept that it's very cold out but that would be helpful and
exposing yourself to as much natural light as possible. I don't mean suntanning
and I definitely don't mean tanning beds but being outside
and exposing yourself to environment light is very
beneficial. The third thing you can do is watch your diet, so eating
foods that are fresh, and I accept again that the
may not be available, but fresh foods rather than comfort foods actually ends up
helping your energy more.
