Hi everyone, this is Michael and welcome to Engpods.
I believe that one of the most common obstacles for Italians is the fear of making mistakes
when speaking English: The famous “brutta figura” or “bad impression”.
I hear that. It was the same for me when I began learning Italian.
If you haven’t already noticed, my Italian isn’t perfect. But I never let that stop
me from enjoying myself by chatting with my wonderful Italian friends and meeting new
people. Believe me, I’ve made tons of embarrassing
mistakes along the way, but I eventually learned to laugh at myself and appreciate that making
errors is an important part of the learning process.
For example, years ago I used to confuse the words “cornetto” and “cornuto”. These
two words were very similar. One day I walked into a bar and ordered a
“caffé” and a “cornuto”, (in English, a coffee and a “betrayed husband”)
I couldn’t understand why everyone in the bar was laughing until the barman explained.
I was absolutely mortified. And then even I started to laugh. I’ll never
forget it. But in the end, I survived! And so will you.
So whenever you think you’ve made an embarrassing mistake in English, get over it! It’s natural!
That’s all for now. See you next time!
Ciao a tutti, sono Michael e benvenuti in EngPods.
Io credo che uno degli ostacoli più comuni per gli italiani sia la paura di fare errori
mentre parlano inglese: La famosa “Brutta figura” o “Bad impression”.
sbagliare fa parte dell’apprendimento. Ad esempio, anni fa confondevo le parole “cornetto”
e “cornuto”. Per me, queste due parole erano molto simili.
Un giorno, entrai in un bar e ordinai un “caffè” e un “cornuto” (In inglese, un coffee
e un “betrayed husband”) Non riuscì a capire perché tutti stavano
ridendo finché il barista non mi spiegò. Ero davvero mortificato.
E poi, anch’io cominciai a ridere. Non me lo dimenticherò mai.
Ma alla fine, sono sopravvissuto! E anche tu sopravviverai.
E’ tutto per ora. Alla prossima
