Hello I am Olly Murray and welcome to my brand new series on Videojug: Fix Up Look Sharp.
Each episode I am going to be showing some do it yourself fashion tips. This week I am
going to be showing you how to make this baby: yes it's a DIY bow tie!
[Music]
Right all you need to do to make this snazzy bow tie is a piece of velvet, sort of cut
from 6 inches by 3.5 inches and a smaller piece cut by 0.75 inches by 2.5 inches. A
pair of scissors, a ruler, and a little pin which is a bridge bar or a pin back, a pen
and some all purpose glue.
Right first of all, all you need to do is turn over the velvet which is being cut out
it doesn't matter if it's not exactly straight and all I want you to do is find the middle
of the piece of material.
Okay so all I want you to do is make a little dot in the middle, so it's at 14 centimeters
so I'm going to put 7 centimeters there, a little dot and this way as well, get a rough
guide of where I want to put my pin brooch.
It's also 8 and 4 so about there.
Okay, so then I want you to fold in and out
the piece of material, almost like you're making a fan.
With that sort of movement then when you get in
the middle
I want you to hold down where you put your dot and get some glue.
And then wherever you've put the flap in I want you to put glue,
just like that.
It's a little dot on each layer so that it sticks down firmly together just like that
and just hold there for 30 seconds.
Right, so once your glue is set which hopefully it should be, there we go it has set and already
got the shape of the bow tie and is brilliant, but then you take your little bow tie and
this is going to act as your middle bit.
I don't know if there is a technical term for this, I'm just going to call it the middle
bit.
So then we just put a little bit of glue on the end just like that and flip it over
and just hold that again for 30 seconds until it dries.
Right, now we need to take your brooch bar and basically look at your bow tie and once
side will be considerably worse then the other side.
So that's really nice and that's a little bit not so nice,
so we are going to do it on the not so nice side.
Oh my finger is stuck to the bow tie, there we go.
And I want you to do a whole line of glue
down the back and be very careful not to glue yourself to it because it's very fiddly, then
you're just going to stick it,
30 seconds again on the back of your bow tie.
Right so once it's dry you have finished your bow tie and you can put it on,
anything with a collar or without a collar. I think it's better with a collar and I'll
just pin it on, and there you have it!
You have your bow tie ready for any occasion, how cool is that?
Thanks so much for watching for watching Fix Up Look Sharp, and if you like what you've
you can always subscribe to Videojug Beauty and I'll be back next week where I will be
teaching you how to make embellished necklace collars.
I'll see you then, bye!
