Animated videos are a great way to communicate ideas and teach new concepts.
So what are the steps to creating them?
Step 1. Write a script.
Keep it simple and no more than three minutes in length.
Step 2. Record a voice over. Rehearse until your voice sounds confident and smooth.
Step 3. Choose an animation tool.
Powtoon and Wideo are my favourites, but did you know that PowerPoint and Keynote have animation features too?
Step 4. Design or choose characters, props, and backgrounds.
Use Creative Commons and Public Domain images, or draw your own.
Step 5. Design movement. Include big movements and small ones. Time all movements to your voice over.
Step 6. Add background music. Jamendo and CCMixter are great sites to find music.
Step 7. Add credits, citations, and closed captions.
Credit anyone who worked on your video, including yourself!
Add citations for images, music, and research you used to create this video.
Closed captions will help to make your video accessible.
Step 8. Save your project in multiple formats and make sure you can edit it again later.
Upload it to video sharing sites like Vimeo and YouTube. Now you're ready to share!
Keep practicing and you'll be surprised with what you can come up with. You already have the magic ingredient - your creativity!
