OK, so what is your name?
Douglas Faxas Rosabal, ex-political prisoner
who arrived in Spain April 8th, 2011 as part of the Group of 37,
the last group to leave Cuba as part of the pact made
between the Castro dictatorship of Cuba,
the former Zapatero government in Spain,
and the Cardinal Jamie Ortega as mediator from the Cuban Catholic Church.
We find ourselves at the moment here in the Plaza de la Provincia in Madrid
asking that the terms of pact be honored, or
that we be transferred to a different country by way of the United Nations
who could provide a solution to our situation.
Here is where we stay, and where we live all the time.
Today the police harassed us with the goal of getting us to leave
and we're expecting that they'll return within the next few hours.
And, what can we do to help you?
Well, any attention you can bring to our situation--
we are reaching out to the Cuban Exile community
that they support us, that they advocate on our behalf like the US Congressmen,
which so far they have been doing, they have really been supporting us, for which we are extremely grateful,
and, well, that people join themselves to our cause.
This is a political problem, and from another perspective also economic.
All of us here have our relatives with us
--some of which are children, elderly or sick--
along with the well-known economic crisis here in Spain with unemployment,
as it is worth mentioning that the funds that the EU designated
for the help of refugees like us has dried up.
And there are scandals domestically here in Spain
like in Valencia where the lack of funds problem started with ONG.
In other words,
we're in great need of help.
Thank you very much. Thank you all.
