OK... recently we received our new upgraded Magic Jack Plus
And today we're going to see how easy it is to setup!
Now... I am a previous Magic Jack customer, so I do have the old one from...
the old account, but if you're setting yours up for the first time; it should be in a very similar fashion.
OK... as we open it.
We see we have a...
networking cable,
the actual...
MagicJack...
device.
The power...
transformer, the usb interface;
and then we have a
usb extension cord.
Alright... It comes with some instructions in photo form.
How to use in your new MagicJack plus without a computer...
and how to use it with the computer.
We're going to go ahead and and do the "with a computer" instructions first and plug it...
into a usb port,
because we will make sure...
that it is registered.
And if you're installing yours for the first time, you have to register it first to get your phone number.
So, it has to be run...
in a computer initially.
Ok... here is the Magic Jack Plus.
I have uninstalled the MJ software from my desktop computer, because I want this to install...
as it would if I...
was a first time... buyer.
There's two plugs here, one for the internet which is going to hook up to the router, and...
then one for your actual phone which you're going to use, your home phone equipment.
So now I'm going to plug this in...
to the usb port.
Now, this usb port is on a 4 port router, or extension.
But, you could just plug yours straight into your computer.
Now, I heard some beeps on the computer, and the little blue light is on for the MJP.
(shuffling noises)
We're getting some little messages on the screen
Ok... it says start MagicJack and we're going to select...
that option.
(installing)
It's downloading.
That's completed now.
It's giving me the "lucky you" message.
One minute of patience... for a lifetime of savings.
Alright... now we see the MJ console.
Alright... (reading from screen) enjoy 30 minutes of talktime for 48 hours, before you register or click here to reg
or click here to register and get your phone number.
So we will click there.
Let's see what's under menu?
Ok... so if you click register... you get
two options "Purchase this MJ from the MJ website" or Purchased it from a retail store."
We did it online...
Alright... It wants to know...
email.. and...
order number
(typing noises)
Alright... and I do have a password.
"Password does not match email on file."
Alright... now we have to name the device... the password I typed in must have been wrong, but I had it already in my clipboard...
so I just pasted it directly in.
Examples: "My laptop", "desktop"...
"office."
I'll just name it the desktop...
Alright... read the terms of service. Click next.
Vanity numbers... I don't want a vanity
number.
I don't want a new number... or use one of the...
numbers registered to my account.
Click "upgrade"... no. We already bought the 5 year plan.
Additional year... nope.
I don't want additional...
magicjacks.
Of course... you might want to read through all that.
International calls... nope.
Alright... activation completed.
Of course now we could send out some emails...
and spam some other people. But we're done... let me see..
Congratulations... click here to close the window.
Alright... and now this is how it looks when its operating. Notice the...
phone number in the top.
Guess I'll have to blur that out.
And, it's ready to go.
And that's all there is to it.
Now we're going to move it to...
where I am actually using it.
And hook it to the phone...
and see if it works.
Alright... here is our...
previous old MagicJack. This one need a computer to run.
I had it running off of this "thin client"...
here; so that I wouldn't have to use my regular desktop.
Taking the MJP and plugging it into the power adapter.
And now I'm going to plug it in.
(shuffling noises)
I also have...
here; a network cable that's coming from my router to supply the internet.
We're going to plug that into the MagicJack.
(click noise) And then I have...
a standard...
phone cable. Right here...
that I'm also going to plug into the MagicJack.
Alright...
so that...should be...
good to go... and I do see a light...
just came on by the network cable.
And now we're going to try out the MagicJack Plus...
and see if it works.
Alright... so here's our home phone setup...
you can use just a standard old-style plug in telephone or...
multi-handset unit...
like this one.
I guess I have to pull it off the base. (dial tone heard on speaker)
Alright... we do have a dial tone. So that's a good sign.
Now... just 'cause you get a dial tone; doesn't necessarily mean...
that it'll work. (dialing noises) So...
let's try it out. (ringing noises)
It's ringing on speaker... but not on the cell phone I'm calling.
Alright... at this point I'm wondering if I dialed the right number. (chuckle)
(redialing and ringing on speaker)
(pacman ringtone) Alright... it took a while to get through, but you can hear in the background my PacMan...
ringtone on my cellphone.
hot
(I got a pocket full of quarter and I'm headed to the arcade)
Now, we'll go ahead and call it in the other direction.
Alright, the cellphone has made the call...
(home phone ringing) And there we go... incoming call.
So... that's the MagicJack Plus!
