My name is Hayley Liu, and I’m currently doing Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
I chose Huddersfield because it’s a very nice town, everyone’s really friendly and
I specifically chose my course because it has a placement scheme available. The campus
is quite small, but I think the good thing about it is that it’s very homely and you
get to meet lots of people. The facilities are very good, they’re all in different
buildings and there’s all the lecture rooms, the computer labs and
the laboratories. The best thing that I’ve enjoyed my course would be the variety of
stuff, which I get to do. I can learn the theory, use the programming, build circuits
in the labs. There’s quite a lot to do and I love learning new stuff. The lecturers are
very supportive, whenever I need help I can always go up to them and ask them either at
their office or send an email to them. I think it's very important to have a placement year
on my course because, for me, I’ve never worked in engineering before. I came out of
A-Levels, so it was really important for me to have the experience and to be able to know
what’s out there and know what opportunities are available. I would recommend my course
to people because for me, I didn’t really know much about engineering. I only really
knew that I loved Maths and Science. So I did take a bit of a risk, but it was definitely
worth while. When I look back on my time here at Huddersfield,
I would think about how much I’ve grown as a person. I’ve been able to do so much
stuff which I wouldn’t think would be possible at first.
