I'm here in the Sahara Desert.... With my camel.
Hi my name is Vince Wong and we're up here on my roof deck
enjoying another beautiful sunset in Bangkok, Thailand.
I never truly appreciated what a beautiful sunset is like until just a few years ago.
You see, less than 3 years ago, I couldn't even tell you that I enjoyed anything other
than sleep. I left for work before sunrise, got home after
dark and if I was lucky, I'd sleep more than 4
hours a week. Now, most days I wake up, I get to enjoy views
like this. Now, I definitely work less than 4 hours a
week. What's even crazier is that I've been earning
more money than I ever did as a medical doctor. Here's just a few screenshots showing you
one of my online businesses earning a little over $200,000 in my first 9 months doing this
Working less than 2 hours a week while traveling the world.
I share this with you not to impress you but to impress upon you that if a doctor who
spent 10 years doing something completely unrelated can do this, so can you.
It's getting dark so let's head back downstairs. Welcome. Let me load up some travel footage.
In 2008, everything changed when a few unexpected events occurred.
I had some personal health matters in my family and along with working crazy hours
I was getting burnt out and realized that I needed to do something different
By chance that same year I met Tim Ferriss Ok, not a very complimentary photo for both
of us But Tim challenged my assumptions and made
me test my limits As someone who liked challenges, I did so
I got hold of a copy of The 4 Hour Work Week and read it 3 times, front to back
I took a book full of notes and then asked myself
What is the worst thing that could happen? And of course Iwas scared, but despite my
fears I knew for me that it was the right thing
to do So I finally followed my passion and handed
in my resignation letter Sold everything I owned and moved back home
The photo on the right here is me sitting outside my basement apartment
and it was the last time that I ever wore a dress shirt for work
the next year was not easy, I made a ton of mistakes
and had to learn how to build an online business from scratch
which was not easy and I found myself working long hours
But as soon as I applied automation principles from the book
I had a virtual team around the world from Sweden to the USA, Indonesia and The
Philippines and in late 2009, I took my staff on an all
expense paid vacation and charity event and had a really good time
I freed up so much time while earning more money than I ever did that I started to finally
be able to chase my dreams of world travel Over the past two years I've traveled to and
lived in over 37 countries around the world I surfed my first 6 foot wave in Costa Rica
practiced Muay Thai in Thailand learned kitesurfing in Vietnam
got to Mount Everest basecamp in Tibet at 18,000 feet
and went scuba diving in the Similan Islands I applied Pareto's 80/20 principle mentioned
in the 4HWW to various areas of my life such as language
learning got conversationally fluent in Russian and
Spanish while living in Costa Rica and The Ukraine.
I now speak 6 languages, and working on 2 more.
I started a travel blog, got over 13,000 Twitter followers
chosen as a finalist for AOL's ambassador program to work with their CEO
and help them improve their social media technology I was also hired by Fortune 500 companies
to help them develop products that ended up winning a Cannes Gold Lion award
I also helped a few friends escape the rat race
find and do what they truly love My current mission is to help others do the
same Just this week I started a new project
called Project 1% (www.project1percent.com) where I would travel, meet, connect with
and learn from inspirational thought leaders, visionaries, and successful entrepreneurs
so that we can all learn how to rise to that top 1%.
I plan to share everything I learn absolutely free with you on my blog at
www.project1percent.com I recently interviewed the CEO of TripAdvisor
and have a bunch more I plan to do I'd love to interview Tim too if I get the
chance to attend so that even though many of us won't be at
the event we can at least learn a thing or two
because you deserve it Whether I win or not though, I'm pretty happy
with my life right now and I'd be happy to keep doing what I'm doing
but I discovered working literally four hours a week
making a bunch of money or just jetsetting around on camels
isn't making me any happier when I met Tim in London I asked him
"Do you really work 4 hours a week?" I discovered Tim's like the hardest working
person I know except, when you do what you love
it's not really considered work Well, helping people achieve their dreams
and get over their fears overcome their limiting beliefs is what I
LOVE to do and I plan to be working a hundred hours a
week doing my next challenge which is to
write a bestselling book to help other people if I can help just one person move closer
to their dreams and be healthier, wealthier, more successful,
and have better relationships just as I hope to do with Project 1%
I'm going to be very happy I have very little time to get this video
popular enough to be eligible for the contest
In fact, less than 24 hours because I didn't even know this contest was going on until
now So if you're watching this and want to hear
more from me again and let me help you achieve your goals
please share this video with your friends right now
on Facebook, Twitter, or wherever Let me leave you with my final thoughts
The biggest thing I learned from my life is to always be pushing my comfort zone
challenge your assumptions question the impossible
try something new today fail more often than you're comfortable with
and learn from it because you never know where it's going to
take you. Have an awesome day.
