Please find this product at http://absupply.net/ This video is to bring you a closer look at
the Gamco 100C Straight Grab Bar. This is a four foot version so it is a bit hard to
show it to you well in the camera all in one length, here it is. The 100C means a couple
of things. It is a 1 inch diameter bar and then has a concealed ***. I must say it's
got very nice weight to it. It weighs 2-3/4 pounds, and you can see how the concealed
aspect of that *** works. You've got three set screws in the base there, another one
here; you can see where they are the three set screws 1, 2, and 3. 48" long and that
is a reference to the center of the bar to the center over there. Okay, available in
all of the standard lengths that you can really require, for everything from up to 48" and
as small as 12". 12", 16", 18", 24", 30", 32" 36", 42", and 48". Those are the lengths.
This is all stainless steel, there's nothing, those set screws are steel, but everything
else is stainless. The set screws that hold that in, hold the flanges on are steel or
at least they are ferrous. Completely stainless steel there. Okay, so talking about the physical
characteristics of this bar are below this video in the extended description. There is
also a link to what is called the cut sheet that is the important document that really
lists everything in exceptional detail along with its sister products, the 1-1/4" diameter,
the 1-1/2" diameter etc. Most important to know about this is that its 1" diameter and
in my experience is small. 1-1/2" is far more common. One complaint that I've heard from
people, the elderly, I've heard the elderly complain that the smaller diameter bars hurt
their hands when using them, pushing themselves up or lowering themselves down because it's
a smaller surface area that you're dealing with in your hand. The larger bar distributes
that a little bit better, so that is one drawback that I've heard to this. People buy the 1"
because they are less expensive, there's no question about that. 304 18 gauge stainless
steel is what the bar is made of, exposed surfaces are #4 satin finish. Concealed ***
is a 1/2" deep is this dimension. 11 gauge plate back here 3" diameter. Screws are not
included with these bars. You will want to consider that you will have to provide your
fasteners. Very important to note and a very common question we get, grab bars have been
designed and tested to withstand 1300 pounds of downward pull when installed properly.
Now going back to the cut sheet, much of it we have already talked about, the important
aspect is really where to install them. Clearance is required. Clearance is distance between
the finished wall surface and inner edge of the tubing. Standard clearance is 1.5", required
mounting height is 33-36" from the center line end of the grab bar to the finished floor.
36" horizontal grab bar should be installed on the back wall and 42" horizontal grab bar
installed on the side wall or partition wall. So 36 and 42's are the most common lengths
that we sell for grab bars but you're not precluded from using a longer bar like this
when conditions allow is the bottom line, but that's really what they are looking for.
Those requirements are ADA standards, Americans with Disability Act standards and that's definitely
where you want to be following in line with. So, but also people use these in residential
applications for the elderly, or the handicapped anywhere where that's required. These are
certainly a really nice fit. Again a good quality product dollar for dollar, with its
only real disadvantage in my opinion is the lead time. Typically Gamco material takes
3 plus weeks to get. That's the bottom line. Keep that in mind when ordering Gamco; at
least that is the case at this time. If you have any questions on the Gamco 100C Grab
Bar or any other Gamco products please feel free to reach out to us. Thank you very much.
