After the 205 and 206 came the 207.
The more pronounced styling isn't to everyone's taste.
I don't like it either, but don't let that stop you. Other people did like it.
The 207 sold well in the Netherlands and the rest of the world.
There's different varieties. The hatchback, the SW station wagon and CC convertible.
The latter succeeded the 206 CC.
It doesn't have much space on the back seat, but you can open the top.
The 207 got a facelift in 2009.
A disadvantage is that the 207 got heavier, especially when compared to its predecessors.
You'll need bigger engines to make it go.
The basic engine is a 1.4 with 74 hp, no good for highway speeds.
You'll want more power because of the 207's weight.
The weight is due to more safety features, but there are stronger engines.
ENGINES gasoline
ENGINES diesel
Over 1,700 Peugeot 207 are for sale on AutoScout24.
25% is the SW, 14% the CC convertible, 13% has a diesel engine,
and only 6% has an automatic gearbox.
Grey and black are a majority, as we're used to,
but there are also red, orange, yellow and green 207s.
If you want one with satnav, you'll have to try hard. Only 9% has such a system.
Prices start at 4,000 euros, which isn't that bad.
PRICES minimum, average, maximum
The 207 gets a high score on liability. Some years it received top marks.
However, there are some problems.
The 1.6 diesel's dipstick has a bit of plastic that can break off.
It need to be removed when dropped into the oil pan.
Check if it feels right. If not, the dipstick needs to be replaced.
The 1.6 has another ailment: there's little oil on board.
Combined with long maintenance intervals, it can lead to pollution.
That'll cause trouble. Part has been solved as of 2008,
but it won't hurt to get maintenance more often, changing oil frequently.
If not, soot gets in the oil, resulting in broken turbos and other engine trouble.
You don't want that. Another issue with the 1.6 diesel is the Eolys fluid.
That fluid is used to regenerate the particulate filter.
It's in a tank at the rear wheel, vulnerable to stone chipping.
It'll start leaking. Nasty stuff when it gets on your driveway.
You'll have to pave it all over again. That's no fun.
Then there's the 1.6 THP, a nice turbo engine with 118 hp.
The timing chain is vulnerable. MINIs have the same problem; same engine.
The tensioners on the timing chain-- Sometimes it's not tight enough.
What happens is that the engine's component are desynchronized.
The engine is done for because everything breaks.
If you want a Peugeot 207 with 1.6 THP engine, check for adjustments.
When you hear a gong when starting, the battery voltage is too low.
That means a new battery.
It happens sometimes, but batteries just don't last forever. We all know that.
That was it for the 207's structural problems. Not a long list.
It's a reliable car.
This car is a nice edition. Glass sunroof for a lot of light inside.
I'm no fan of station wagons in this class, but it's got something.
Pretty rims, park distance, A/C, but no satnav.
All in all a nice car.
