Hi! I'm Jemma, we're here at Crumbs and Doilies cupcakes HQ. Where we make delicious cupcakes
and I'm going to show you how to decorate your cupcakes super duper awesome. In this
particular video we're going to sugar pasted cupcakes which is really good because it creates
a really smooth surface so you can decorate it even further using royal icing or sugar
flowers. So first of all we need cupcakes obviously
and sugar paste of course. You can buy sugar paste in most super markets now, you also
need a rolling pin and a non-stick board, cocktail stick, pastry cutter, I'm going to
colour it blue so it's a bit more exciting. Let's do it. I've got some butter cream in
here. butter cream is essentially, butter, icing sugar, a bit little of milk and some
flavouring. Spread it gently around, you want to give
a base to your sugar paste so that it sticks on. Like that. And we're going to colour our
sugar paste with blue colour paste. Not liquid because we don't want to change the consistency
of it. Imagine it's like a tiny piece of bread dough, you want to knead it in. Folding it
over and pushing it out with the heel of your hand. The colour is already starting to work
its way through the layers you're creating and the sugar paste itself is becoming really
nice and squishy. Its nice and even the colour now so now I
wanna make it into a little ball so I'll flip it over so that's the ugly side, we'll put
that on the bottom. Using the non stick rolling pin and we're
gonna roll it until it's about no more than half a centimetre thick rally, that about
the limit of your thickness. You don't want to flip it over, ever! Like
you do with pastry and stuff like that. but you do want to rotate it so that we make a
nice even shape. Roll it out a bit. Roll it onto your rolling pin and drop it down like
that. It's about ready now,
I'm going to use this pastry cutter which is about the same size as the cupcake so chomp
right down, give a little wiggle and then take that excess away. Using a clean palette
knife pick it up really gently and then literally lay it on the top. You want to use this nice
fatty bit of your thumb to smooth it down. it you use your finger tips to smooth it out
you'l have dimples . Really gently pushing back if it's overhanging a little bit or pushing
it down if it doesn't quite fit. And if there are any bits of icing coming
out just wipe them away with your finger until there you have it, a really smooth smooth
cupcake surface you can then decorate it until you hearts content. I've got some more icing
here and some little sugar flowers. And we'll just use that to stick it on. Really cute
little elegant cupcake. Sugar pasted and adorned with flowers. It's really, really sweet and
you can decorate that with loads of other stuff. Royal icing's really good and if you
want to learn more about royal icing, check out a video I did before which is all about
how to make royal icing and how to use it effectively/ And in the mean time, practice
with your sugar paste because it's really fun, try different colours, try different
flavours, different icing underneath maybe get a little bit of a surprise underneath.
And if you like this video why don't you tell em about it, ideas and stuff just put them
in the comments box below and I'll check them out.
