We need to collaborate to renew the state
of the Astrolabe Reef and the surrounding area.
That's according to the owners of the Rena cargo ship
in an announcement to the people of the Bay of Plenty today.
A visitor with the intention of working collaboratively
with the people of the land.
They presented their proposal outlining what they think
is best for the restoration of the Astrolabe
to its pre-Rena state, for the iwi to consider.
The iwi have always maintained
that they want the entire wreck gone.
The new proposal and information does encourage them
to think twice about that.
Is it better or worse?
It's food for thought.
Some have begun to think like that.
What's the best way to return the sea to its pre-Rena state?
While deliberations are underway, if the iwi do not agree,
they say the issue can still be taken to court.
Iwi will discuss the proposal over the next three weeks
before meeting with Rena owners and insurers again.
