Theme song: Welcome to Penelope's World, Penelope's World,
Penelope's World. It's a talk show about stuff. I have a teddy bear and a tiara!
Penelope: Hi! I'm Penelope! Come on in!
Penelope: Hi everybody! Welcome back to Penelope's World! I'm Penelope. Now, Huerbert was telling
me today that he really wanted to look like a gentleman for today's show. He said our
guest was really important. So he wanted to look his best. Are you ready to help me make
him look his best? Huerbert, what would you like to wear today? Oh, you'd be so handsome!
He'd like to wear some wings. What do you think about that? Now that you're ready to
go, are you ready to welcome our next guest? His name is Kenzo Lee and he's a wonderful
man. Are you ready to sing him in? (sings) Lalalala! Do you want happy or sad music?
Kenzo: (offstage) I want happy music. Penelope: (singing) Happy music, happy music,
happy music! Come on in Kenzo! Kenzo:(offstage) Okay!
Penelope: Come on in! Yaaaaaay! Kenzo: Hi Penelope!
Penelope: Welcome! Thank you so much for coming! Kenzo: Thank you so much for having me! This
is a really great place. Penelope: Thank you so much.
Kenzo:I love this. I love all of the shapes. It's like a Lucky Charms box.
Penelope: Thank you so much. Kenzo: What's this? What's this triangle?
Penelope: Well, we're... you know. It's a Pink Triangle. We're friendly.
Kenzo: Oh! Okay! It's like "equality". Penelope: We're friendly to everyone.
Kenzo: It's human rights. Equality. Penelope: Right. Penelope loves everyone.
Well, welcome! Kenzo: Yeah! It's great to be here.
Penelope: Um, Kenzo, I thought of something very interesting. Um, you're an Asian American
Actor. Kenzo: Yes I am. I am an Asian American Actor.
Penelope: Do you like to help people when they're on the side of the road? Are you who
I call? You're Triple A, right? Kenzo: Oh, AAA like the car company?
Penelope: Yeah! Asian American Actor. So, I call you and say "Kenzo, my car! My tire's
flat." Kenzo: I think that's the Automotive Agency
of America. I just got back from Hawaii. Penelope:You did!
Kenzo: And I brought a little present for you.
Penelope: You brought me a present?!? Kenzo: I did, yeah! These are Kukui nuts.
They are for LIfe and Love and all kinds of great stuff.
Penelope: So, I just got laid by your nuts. Kenzo: Yes, you did. And they look great on
you. Penelope: They're heavy.
Kenzo: Well, they are. Penelope: Thank you so much. This is such
a lovely gift. No one has brought me a gift yet. Thank you!
Kenzo: Well, you're very welcome. I'm happy to be here. Thank you very much for having
me. Penelope: Well, Kenzo, um, you have a lot
of projects coming up. You have A Leading Man, is this the project that is coming out?
Kenzo: I do. It's a feature film that we shot last year. Um, it's basically about the issue
of Asian American-- You have a bear with wings. Penelope: Yes. This is Huebert Humphreys he's
my cohost. Kenzo: Hello Huerbert. It's nice to meet you.
Penelope: He wanted to dress up and look nice for you.
Kenzo: Okiedokie. So A Leading Man is a feature film about Asian Americans in the film industry
and why it is that we don't get a lot of leading roles. You always see us being, you know,
the exchange student or the guy that is working the counter at the 7/11, but we don't usually
get to be the leading man or to get to be the main character of the flim.
Penelope: The guy next door. Kenzo: No. We want to be the guy, who's next
to the guy next door. We want to be the guy who's actually--
Penelope: The main guy! Kenzo: The main guy. Not the guy next door.
Penelope: The main guy everybody. I like that! Well today, you're my main guy.
Kenzo:Oh thank you! Penelope: You're my leading man.
Kenzo: Ooooooooo Penelope: Well, I like that! When can we expect
that? Kenzo: That will be coming out hopefully at
the end of the summer, maybe into fall. So, be on the look out for it. You can go to www.aleadingman.com
And it just shows up like that. Penelope:Look at that. Well now you have another
project coming up. Kenzo:I do! I do absolutely have some more
projects. Um, I have an ongoing comedy show called All About Walken: The impersonators
of Christopher Walken. Penelope: Who's Christopher Walken? Do you
guys know? Kenzo: Well, Christopher Walken is an actor
who's been around for dozens of years and he's been in a lot of different movies: Like
Pulp Fiction and Catch Me If You Can. Uh, he was a tap dancer originally. He's been
on SNL a lot. Penelope: Woooow.
Kenzo: He has this really crazy way of talking. Where he's like (Christopher Walken impression):
Hey, how you doing? My name's Christopher Walken and I'm here to do a show about myself.
Penelope: (giggling) Kenzo: (still doing impression): What's so
funny? I don't know why you're laughing. Is it 'cause I've got a cadence?
Penelope: Yeah. Kenzo:Is it the way I talk?
Penelope: You talk silly. But I like it. What Huebert? Huebert says that he has a really,
really great Walken impression. Kenzo: Really?
Penelope: Yeah. Kenzo: Great. Let's hear it.
Penelope: Huerbert, okay. Wow! Kenzo: That's pretty impressive.
Penelope: That sounded just like him! Kenzo: I'm pretty impressed. I'm a little
intimidated right now. Penelope: Wow!
Kenzo:I mean, is he a professional? Penelope: Don't feel Less than because he
did a good job. Kenzo: Well, he did a good job.
Penelope:You did! Maybe you can go on his show?
Kenzo: Maybe you should be in the show? We could have you be a guest host.
Penelope:I have to come and see the show. Kenzo: You do have to come see the show. Yes.
It's an ongoing show. We have it going the time in Hollywood at the Dragonfly on Santa
Monica Blvd. You can get more information about that at: www.facebook.com/allaboutwalken
Penelope: I like that. That's wonderful. Kenzo: Thank you. And I love these little
friends you have here. Penelope: Yep! Do you have a favorite? Do
you want to play with one? Kenzo:I do, I do. You know, I was born in
the year of the Monkey. So, this is my favorite right here, the little monkey.
Penelope: This is Mister Chimpy. Kenzo: That is a very, very usual name.
Penelope: Kenzo, you're a really handsome man, can I--
Kenzo: Oh, thank you-- Penelope: --can I, can we play dress up?
Kenzo: Do you guys want me-- Yeah, yeah we can play dress up. Sure, why not? As long
as I can keep Mister Chimpy with me. Penelope:Yeah. I think... that you would look
really great in this hat. Kenzo: Oh. It's like a politically correct
Cat in the Hat. Penelope: Yeah. Um, no, I don't think that
will fit you. Kenzo: Oh, it's fluffy!
Penelope: Can I give you some pink lips? Kenzo: Sure. Yeah okay. Yeah.
Penelope: Yeah? He's going to look so pretty! Kenzo: Should I pucker up?
Penelope: That's too much. That's perfect. So we'll teach you some tips now on how to
make a man look really pretty. First you put on a hat. And then you put on the lipstick.
Close your eyes. Kenzo: I didn't think that this would be happening
when I got up this morning. I have to be really honest with you.
Penelope: Are you happy now? Kenzo: I'm intrigued.
Penelope: Excellent. Kenzo: I feel kind of jingley.
Penelope: Well you should. You look wonderful. You look really, really great.
Kenzo: I feel like this is one step away from Blue Steel.
Penelope: Kenzo, what made you want to be an actor?
Kenzo: Well, when I was a little kid, my grandmother used to make me perform in front of the family.
Penelope: She made you? Kenzo: Yeah, she forced me. Uh, I was 5 years
old, I was just playing the piano and she would sit me down in front of the piano and
I would have to play. And every time we got together with family, I would play the piano.
And after a few years, she started singing along with me. Like, singing a lot of Phantom
of the Opera and a lot of musical theatre stuff. So, when I was in highschool, my parents
were like, "You should go out for a musical, you should go out for the musical". And I
didn't my freshman year. And it was Evita and I saw it and everyone was like "Wasn't
that a great show? Wasn't that a wonderful show?" and I thought to myself, "I can do
that. I can do better than that". So the next year I went out for The Music Man, and I felt
okay about it because, I was playing football at the time, and I felt okay about it because
there were three other football players in the show with me as well--
Penelope: Right, you don't want to loose that Man Card.
Kenzo: No, not with This going on. Um, and basically, went through high school and did
a lot of theatre in high school and went to college and did some theatre in college. And
kind of came out to LA on a whim. I was kind of like, "I'm going to give myself six months
and see how it goes", and here I am ten years later.
Penelope: Ten years?? Wow. So you've really done a good job for yourself.
Kenzo: Well thank you. I would like to say that if you're passionate about something,
you're never really working. So, for ten years I haven't been working that much.
Penelope:This is true. It's like playing. And you've appeared in dozens of national
commercials. Kenzo: I did. They're like itty bitty stories.
It's a lot of fun. Penelope: They are like stories. I liked watching
them. Kenzo: Oh thank you.
Penelope: They're really fun. You're that guy that I'm always like, "I know that guy!
He's the guy in all the commercials! He's in that one, and that one".
Kenzo: And now when I watch your tv show I can go, "I know that girl! I know that her,
I know her! The one with the cape and the glasses and the tiara and I was wearing the
purple stuff and it was awesome." Penelope: Yaaaay! Well Kenzo, thank you so
much for being on our show today. Kenzo: Thank you for having me.
Penelope: You deserve um, I think you get the biggest gold star, because you played
dress up. Kenzo: I did.
Penelope: And not a lot of boys would let me put make up on them.
Kenzo: Well that's too bad for the rest of those boys, 'cause it was really fun. I had
a great time. Penelope: Yes.
Kenzo: You're going to put it right here? Oooo it's like a birthmark.
Penelope: Like, a pretty birth mark. Thank you. You look beautiful. Guys, doesn't he
look beautiful? Give a big round of applause for how wonderful Kenzo Lee did today.
Kenzo: Thank you so much. Penelope: Thank you so much for being here
and for showing us all of your fun things. And if you want to check out more about Kenzo
