That morning the birds awoke us.
We had had an epiphany.
Call it a joint epiphany.
The grass had grown too long. We had to do something about it.
That's right. We were going to need a lawnmower and we wanted the best.
Minimal pollution,
easy to start,
and quiet.
So we jumped into the car and zipped down to the hardware store.
Our store is locally owned so its a good place to do some research.
Can I answer any questions for you folks?
Well, how long does this last on a charge?
Most people get an hour, some more.
It depends on the heft of your grass.
If it's real long you might not get quite that much, if it's shorter you will get more time than that.
And to charge it up?
Well five to eight hours I think is what it says in the handbook but overnight
works really well for most people.
Now I've never mowed a lawn
in my life so do I have to push that?
You can push it or if you squeeze that little bar at the top it will propel itself.
Oh, I like that!
How fast does it go?
Oh, approximately three miles per hour.
Three miles per hour. I can do that. I do faster than that on the treadmill.
She's a mower hugger.
(laughter)
Well there is quite a bit of blade sound in most mowers but this is considerably quieter
than a gas-powered mower.
There's zero pollution
the only thing you're using and the criticism would be - yes, but you're using
coal power to power your electricity but obviously thats minuscule
compared to the pollution of the gas powered mower.
Well the price was right,
like twenty percent cheaper than one of the old fashioned gasoline mowers.
So we bought it.
At the second crack of dawn,
Susan went out to visit the lawnmower.
It was as easy to start as pushing a button.
Quiet. No gasoline fumes. And it ran at just her speed.
She loved it!
Guys.
this is every man's dream come true.
When does anyone enjoy mowing the lawn?
Now I might mow in straighter lines...
As long as she is happy, so am I.
Here's the good news. We mowed the whole lawn in an hour,
and did it on one charge.
And when the job was done,
she drove from new best friend into the garage and plugged it in.
Story over.
Here's the facts.
No gasoline to buy, fill, and spill.
No stinky exhaust fumes.
No oil to check,
change, or dispose of.
No air filter. No choke. No spark plugs.
Costs just five to nine cents to charge it up.
Our battery was lead acid. Many prefer lithium ion
which are lighter, more powerful, charge quickly,
and live longer,
but they cost a little more up front.
Cordless electric.
It runs cool. And so do you.
So chew on that!
