Canine competitors of all shapes and sizes took to the waves last weekend in California's
sixth annual Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon.
A total of 65 playful pups took part in the competition at Huntington Beach, participating
in heats based on their weight - with extra-large, large and medium categories as well as a tandem
division and a pro division.
The beach in California looked barking mad as the parade of pooches took to the water
to ride the surf .
They were judged on their skills, the duration of their ride and their confidence while riding.
The top tandem surfers were Bono, the chocolate Labrador Retriever and his owner, Ivan.
The surfing competition was the closing event for a weekend full of dog events.
Other features include a dog red carpet as well as the inauguration of the Surf Dog Walk
of Fame.
