Hi its John here
It's Christmas Day 2012, and I've been down to the kitchen garden allotment
and collected vegetables for our Christmas dinner we have some guests
coming and I really enjoyed going out onto the land
It's just me, when I worked on the farm I used to find
I used to find I liked working on Christmas Day, I used to find I liked working
when every bodies not working and working when everybody is working
I don't know what it is? Something about being the 3rd child in the family perhaps.
Anyway, I've been saving up these crops
they are not that wonderful, but Iv'e been saving them up for Christmas,
And if we start up this end we've got Russian Kale, its not as nice
It's not as nice as Curley Kale but it grows easily
and it's a little bit bitter, its alright.
It grows easily and it is sort of cut and come again
Its got lovely colours in it, moving on to this Brussel tops.
probably something you would not see in the shops but a lot of my brussles
don'd do it! We just get the greens, but they are quite nice.
And then the piest de resistance Brussle Sprouts,
And I have been trying to leave some for Christmas, even though they have been ripening
earlier on and we have had some feeds, anyway I'm going to put those on top of the
Brusle Sprout Greens, to make it look like we have got a little bit more than ther is!
because that is all the Brussle Sprouts that Ive got left at the moment.
And from the main allotment
Ive got the Parsnips
Parsnips can be sown in February, but I did not have faith to do that.
I felt nothing is going to grow in February, these were planted about April.
And some of them are saved seed, and I did not thin them out at all.
partly because it was so wet and horrible and
I just don't like thinning things out because you just loose so much.
and these ones up this end are the smaller ones which I shall just tidy up,
and wash off
that just wants a scrub, and cut the top and bottom off
and then just boil it, eat it with the skin
And take a good example of these, I will peel it, they are not big for a Parsnip, but they are bigger.
I will slice them up and roast them
So I hope you have a lovely Christmas and
And your relationships with your friends and family live up to your ideals
And I'm going to be spending about three quarters of an hour preparing these.
now and then I will be looking forward
to the traditional Christmas dinner, right bye for now!
