pitcher with the skinny handle looks like it has birds and animals stenciled on it?
But guess what? That s not the case at all! Bill: This business of cutting away an outer
layer of glass to create decoration is very much like we saw in the Morgan cup earlier.
A worker gathered clear glass on the end of the blowpipe, let it harden a little bit,
and then gathered green glass on top of that clear glass, and then blew them together.
Kid 2: So how did it change from a glass bubble into a pitcher that could hold something?
Bill: The handle was added by putting a little bit of clear glass on the side, and draping
it over the side, and sticking it on the bottom. The bottom was flattened and the rim was formed
you see there s a little pouring spout there and after the vessel was cooled, it was decorated
by cutting away some of the green glass. Kid 1: That person must ve had good eyes! Those
animals look very delicate. Bill: Very small tools would have been used to cut away parts
of the green glass; almost all of it except for the little bit you see left behind to
create the decoration. Decorating a vessel like this would have taken perhaps as much
as 100 hours. Narrator: There are so many things to see here today. You could easily
spend 100 hours just looking around! Let s get moving! Stop 1 Family tour Morgan Cup
