So, you ready to take a belly dance class? Hi, I'm Johanna with Hip Expressions Belly
Dance Studio in St. Petersburg, Florida. People ask me, what do I wear to belly dance class?
Now, the first thing you want to do, is check with your local instructor in the dance studio.
Because sometimes, there are restrictions on what you can wear on the floor. Sometimes,
you have to wear shoes on the floor, and sometimes they prefer you not to wear shoes. So, definitely,
check with them first. If you have to wear shoes, a good option is a ballet slipper,
or a jazz shoe, that it has a split soul for dance class. However, in our studio, we recommend
dancing barefoot. So, you're dancing barefoot. You also want to wear something that shows
your knee and your ankle position. So, especially for beginners, we don't recommend big skirts.
Because, your instructor needs to see the position of your body, to make sure you're
doing the moves correctly. So you want to make sure they can see your ankles, and see
your knees. So, something like a yoga pant, or a Capri. Something that's nice and tight.
Something that let's you move, doesn't restrict your movement, but it still shows your body
position. Now, if you want to wear a coin wrap, it's a good idea, because that'll help,
help you with your hip movements. You can wear it with coins, or fringe, whatever you
want. But something around the hips is often helpful. As for your top, you don't want to
wear a baggy t-shirt, that covers your hips. You want to wear something that's form fitting.
So again, your "po", your teacher can see your body position, but it doesn't restrict
your movement. So, there's what you should wear for your belly dance class. I'm Johanna
Krynytzky, with Hip Expressions Belly Dance Studio, helping you get to your first dance
class.
