Jon Pratt: The announcement of the state government shutdown today is bad news
for many people in Minnesota. It’s also hard news for the nonprofit organizations
that provide services funded by the state or often funded by federal funds that pass through the state.
We know that hundreds of organizations will be reducing their services
and thousands of nonprofit employees will be laid off or furloughed.
MCN has been working with Nonprofit Assistance Fund to provide support to organizations
and will continue to do so through briefings and through our website.
Susie Brown: This week on Wednesday, June 29, Judge Gearin in the Ramsey County District Court
ruled on the shutdown by saying that there will be a very narrow scope of state services that continue during the time of the shutdown.
She also indicated that there will be a Special Master, Kathleen Blatz,
who will be the person that nonprofits may go to,
should they be interested in petitioning for ongoing services.
MCN will be sure to let you know as soon as we have information on that process.
Jon Pratt: We regret it got to this point and obviously we all want to see a resolution
to the budget. But that kind of a resolution needs to be fair,
including revenues as well as expenditure cuts.
MCN and its members will continue advocating for a fair budget in the future,
and continue providing resources at our website and through briefings.
Thank you.
