Welcome back, are you looking to start your own business but don’t have the tools to get it off the ground? OSU Tulsa is offering a program to
get you started in six weeks. It’s called cowboy boot camp and Nola Miyasaki, the director of Riata Center for entrepreneurs
joins us now: along with Lisha Williams who went through this program bootcamp last year. We’ll talk about your experiences. Nola, lets, uh, let me ask you
first of all, we’re talking about bootcamp there’s no push-ups or running involved with this at all? No, but it’s a really intense program for anyone
who has a great idea that wants to start a business or whose recently started a business you know up to 5 years out
It’s intense, you know, resource information packed taught by the entrepreneurship professors at uh, at OSU and successful entrepreneurs. Second year you’ve
done this when’s it start? Yes, It starts October 9th, Saturday morning. October 9th, six Saturdays. Yes. And, um, how many did you have last year?
We had 57 last year and we hope to get to that number again this year, 60 we’re aiming for. Lisha you were one of those
last year, um, what’s your business, what did you learn to start your business? Um, currently I own a personal training studio
and what
I'm getting ready to branch into is the food industry and I think the biggest thing that I really enjoyed about going to this bootcamp
was the number one there’s really 60 other people willing to give up a Saturday morning every morning to
go out and follow their goals to get into their future. Was it worth it? It was definitely worth it, um I
had a lot of fun met a really a lot of really neat people through it and they really helped me redefine some things areas that I was having problems with as far as
my market was concerned and I found it very very um enlightening. What kind
of a background do you need to get to this point, do you have to have, do you have to be a certain um um stage in order to take
this bootcamp? You, it can, it’s for anyone who has a great idea or anyone who's, you don't need any kind of background and
what it is designed to do is to give you tools to take your idea or your existing business to the next level
and that’s what we help people do
What’s the number one obstacle you you see that people face when starting a business. Well
obviously
you need funding, so it's always hard to learn how to bootstrap. One of the things that I found people commonly say
is that um they learn tools to evaluate and really understand their idea to really take it forward and so it's really
different for everyone. Some people think that they gain most from the financial parts understanding cash flow and that kind of
thing but really it’s, it’s just, if you don’t learn a at least a handful of things that take your business or your idea to the
next level um, really that’s what it does. Lisha, real quickly, what advice
would you give to others thinking about taking this bootcamp. Uh, get up and do it it was
just absolutely phenomenal. Um, the instructors were very very knowledgeable, um, they have a mentorship program I can call my
mentor any given time I mean he’s been such a huge help to me, um it was just really worth it
Ok, and Nola, real quickly here it starts October 9th 9th , Yes. Still looking for people to to join up there? Yes
It’s filling up fast but it’s $650 we give scholarships for people who need it and um we just welcome everyone to join it’s
great. Both of you thanks, for coming in good luck. Thanks so much Mark. Appreciate it. For more information about cowboy boot camp head to our website
