Hi, I'm Gina Schreck with SocialKNX. And our question of the week, really, we could call
this one, the question of the year. I get this question about twice a week for the past
-- actually, a couple of years. The question is, "How do I create a Facebook business page
for my business without having a personal profile? Can it be done?"
Well, the answer is yes. Of course it can be done. Facebook allows you to create a business
profile account. So really, you're creating a business account that just verifies that
you're a real person. You have an email address.
However, I always advise against that because when you have a business account, your business
page that you end up creating has very limited access to some of the functions that make
the business page a great tool. You're not able to do search like you can if you connect
it to a personal profile. You're not able to comment on other pages, which is really
important for driving traffic to your page.
So here's my suggestion. Create a personal profile, if you don't already have one. If
you do have one, we're going to answer that question next week because that's our second
most popular question is, "How do I administer that Facebook page? I don't want to tie it
to my personal profile." But this is assuming you don't have a personal profile. My suggestion
is create one. You don't have to put pictures of your family. You don't have to talk about
where you went to high school or third grade. And you certainly don't have to connect with
people.
So, create the personal profile using your real name, using an email address, and using
your date of birth that verifies that you're over 13. Hopefully, you are. Now, once you
create the basics, you don't have -- just skip all the other parts that Facebook suggests
friends for you. Just leave the account and then from there, start creating your business
page. It will give you more functions for really operating it like you want to.
So next week again, we'll talk about how do you connect it to a personal account if you
-- without sharing all of your personal posts and making sure that people don't see the
other content. Trust me, it's possible.
So, thank you so much for your questions. We love getting them. Send us your questions
of the week to either my Twitter account, @GinaSchreck or go to our blog, SocialKNX.com.
And you can leave us comments, questions, anything you want. Just shout it from the
rooftop and we'll hear you. I'm sure we will. So we'll see you next week.
