Hi there today in this video I am going to show you how to start a simple song or beat
in GarageBand. Hopefully this will get you familiar with the basics. First things first
we’re going to go ahead and open up GarageBand. All right now when this menu pops up you’re
just going to click on “new project”, next select loops, and click choose. Lets
name this “Secret Agent Man”, save it to the desktop, press “create” and wait
for it to load. So right here is going to be your GarageBand
workspace. This area is where we will be dragging your loops to, over here we have a plus sign
and you can use that to add other instruments. But for now we are just going to stick to
adding loops. Lets go over here, this is where all the different loops you can choose from
are. Lets try going to “ROCK/BLUES”. Now you can see all the different types of that
genre. Lets scroll way down, and let’s add “Secret Agent Guitar”. To preview it first
just click once and click again to pause it. That sounds good to me so I’m going to go
ahead and add “Secret agent guitar” simply by clicking and dragging over here.
Lets try adding a little variety to this beat. Lets go back over here and first press “RESET”
now all your options are back. Next lets go to “BASS”, and lets try adding “Cool
upright bass 03””, drag it over as overlapping or not as you want with the secret agent man
loop. I’m going to add one more or maybe two so lets go to “Drums” and add “80s
pop beat 08” over here. All right I’m going to add one more loop “secret agent
guitar 02”. If you also want to shorten a clip just go over and click on it, and then
a little icon should appear like so, all you have to do is hold the mouse down and drag
it over to the left or right as much as you want. I can also extend it out by doing a
similar thing, and when this icon shows up just dragging it out.
So right now the volume is going to be the same throughout, but we can change that very
easily. I think this would sound nice with a little fade in or fade out. I can do this
very simply by clicking the triangle then that little square button. Notice that thin
blue line here is where you can adjust the volume very easily, to do that just simply
click once and drag down or up. I think I’m going to fade it out as well. And there you
go! I think the last thing to do is press play and see what we got.
