Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of
Judea,
in the days of Herod the king,
wise men from the east came to Jerusalem saying,
"Where is He who is born King of the Jews?
For we have seen His star in the east and
have come to worship Him."
But having heard this
Herod the king was troubled and all Jerusalem with him.
And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes
together,
he inquired os them where Christ was to be born.
So they said,
"In Bethlehem of Judea for thus
it is written by the prophet
"...and you Bethlehem, land of Judah,
are by no means the least among the governors
of Judah.
For out of you shall come a Governor
who shall shepherd my people Israel."
Then Herod, when he had secretly
called the wise men,
precisely inquired of them at what time the star appeared.
And sending them to Bethlehem he said,
"Go and search earnestly for the young Child,
and when you have found Him, report to me
that I also make come and worship Him."
When they had heard the king they departed.
And behold, the star which they saw in the east
went before them
till it came and stood over
where the young Child was.
And having seen the star
they rejoiced with the exceedingly great joy.
And when they had come
into the house they found the young child with Mary
His mother
and fell down and worshiped Him.
And when they had opened their treasures they presented to Him
gifts,
gold and frankincense
and myrrh.
And being warned in a dream not
to return to Herod
they departed into their own country by
another way.
